Listening to the dial tone, Rebekah stood in stunned silence for a long moment.
Her adoptive father had never liked her, and after Candice returned, he had found fault with everything she did.
In his eyes, she was not worthy of Benjamin; only his own biological daughter was a suitable match.
Yet, he still used her to maintain his connection to the powerful Forrester family.
After some hesitation, Rebekah called Benjamin.
He answered on the second ring, his voice cold. “What do you want now p>
His icy tone sent a shiver down her spine. “The day after tomorrow is Dad’s birthday party. You… you should bring Shawn p>
Benjamin frowned, a flicker of something unreadable in his eyes. So, she couldn’t hold out any longer. She was finally calling him. Her methods were so childish. All this drama was because she couldn’t bear to give up her position as Mrs. Forrester, couldn’t bear to leave him. It was all just a ploy for his attention. As long as she was willing to try to please him, he could overlook her manipulative tactics. But her tone irritated him.
“If you’re so determined to divorce me, then I have no obligation to fulfill the duties of your husband,” Benjamin said coldly. “Is this your idea of making peace p>
“This isn’t about making peace,” Rebekah said, taking a deep breath to control her temper. “My father wants to see Shawn p>
The irony was suffocating. Before her imprisonment, he had played the part of the perfect husband. Now, his true colors were finally showing.
Benjamin’s brow furrowed, his eyes filled with a chilling light. A wave of irritation washed over him. She was only calling because her father wanted to see Shawn? For some reason, this annoyed him even more. She was always using these little tricks. This was probably just an excuse to see him. She couldn’t live without him, could she?
“Your excuses are pathetic,” Benjamin sneered, his voice low and laced with impatience. “Where did you learn such cheap tricks p>
His words were like daggers, piercing her heart. But Rebekah was past the point of feeling pain. She was numb.
She took another deep breath, swallowing the sarcastic retort that rose in her
throat. In three months, she would be gone, and she would never have to see him again.
On the other end of the line, Shawn snatched the phone. “You cripple! Didn’t you say you weren’t my mom anymore? Why are you calling p>
The word “cripple” sent a fresh wave of pain through her. She let out a bitter laugh. This was the son she had carried for ten months. She hadn’t realized he had been so thoroughly corrupted.
“The day after tomorrow is your grandfather’s birthday party. He’s the one who wants to see you, understand p>
Her voice was cold, her beautiful face now a mask of icy composure. The chill in her tone traveled through the phone, echoing in the Forrester living room.
“I said I wouldn’t be your mother anymore, and I meant it. You’re on your own p>
After she spoke, there was a
moment of silence on the other end. Then, a cheerful, carefree female
voice broke the tension. “Why sonet’
serious Benjamin? Come on, look at this dress! Don’t look better than your wife p>
She knew that voice all too well.
Candice.
A bitter taste filled Rebekah’s mouth. She heard Candice laugh and say into the phone, “Don’t be mad, Sis.d know I come over a lot, but we’re just friends. While youre gone someone has to help Benjamin take care of the house, right p>
Her words were spoken with the confidence of a woman who was already the mistress of the house. Rebekah could only laugh at the irony. She had just left, and Candice was already making herself at home.
But she didn’t care. She didn’t want to care anymore. She was done wasting her
time on Benjamin and Shawn.
