As long as the crisis at Forrester Group continued, Benjamin couldn’t rest.
Because of what Rebekah did, the whole Powell Group deal went south, and their bridge to the Hawthornes got burned.
He had tried calling Faye Hawthorne a few days ago, only to find out she was no longer in The Capital.
The thought of it filled him with resentment toward Rebekah. If it weren’t for her, the Powell Group partnership would have been a sure thing.
His assistant knocked and entered the office, his face beaming. “Mr. Forrester, I have good news. President Powell of the Powell Group is coming to The Capital in three days p>
Benjamin’s head snapped up. “What did you say p>
“It’s a private trip, but we managed to get the information.” The assistant was practically vibrating with excitement. “Mr. Forrester, the person at the banquet was just an assistant. This is President Powell himself. Perhaps you can speak with him directly p>
This was his chance. As long as he could get a meeting, he had a shot. He looked at his assistant. “Find out which hotel President Powell will be staying at in three days p>

A crisp, female voice came from the doorway. Candice pushed the door open and walked in, a knowing smile on her face as she approached Benjamin’s desk.
“The Powell family invited me to one of their public events earlier this year. I had someone look into it. President Powell will be having dinner at a private restaurant in The Capital in three days p>
“Which restaurant?” Benjamin asked.
“The Verdant Bistro p>
Benjamin was silent for a moment, then turned to his assistant. “Book a table at The Verdant Bistro for three days from now p>
“Right away p>
After the assistant left, Candice moved to Benjamin’s side, her eyes soft as she looked down at him. “Benjamin, take me with you. I’ve worked with Powell Group before, so I have some sway. I might be able to help you p>
Benjamin looked at Candice, his heart stirring. Compared to her, Rebekah was stubborn and completely useless to him. Candice, on the other hand, was accomplished, generous, and genuinely helpful. It was hard not to be drawn to her.
The gloom that had hung over him all morning began to lift. He smiled at her. “Thank you, Candice p>
“Don’t be so formal with me. We’re best friends, remember?” Candice patted his shoulder playfully, then took his hand. Its it’s almost noon. Let’s go get some funch p>
Benjamin let her pull him to his feet. The soft warmth of her hand in his made his chest ache with a pleasant softness. His fingers twitched, but he didn’t pull away, letting her lead him out of the office.
Seeing that he didn’t resist, a triumphant smile curved Candice’s lips.
There were two weeks left until Old Mrs. Fletcher’s death anniversary. Rebekah
went to a funeral supply store to make arrangements, with Jensen accompanying her.
Just as she finalized her order, she received a call from the private investigator, Mason Wilde.
“Miss Fletcher, I’ve arrived in The Capital. We can go see the witness today. Are you free now p>
Rebekah’s heart pounded with excitement. “Yes, I’m free. Where should we meet p>
After arranging a time and place, she hung up.
“What’s wrong?” Jensen asked.
“I’ve found the third witness from the hit-and-run p>
“I’ll go with you p>
Rebekah hesitated, but Jensen had already taken her arm and was leading her to
