It was Benjamin.
He had followed her.
His grip was tight, squeezing her still-healing wrist until she winced in pain.
Rebekah’s expression was unreadable. She looked down. “Let go p>
Benjamin’s face hardened. He frowned and draped a coat over her shoulders.
“I was just trying to keep your mother from bringing up the incident with Candice p>
His voice was cold, condescending. “She’s your mother, and Candice is your sister.
You need to learn some sense p>
Looking at the woman before him, Benjamin frowned. She was always so difficult. He had hesitated, but had still followed her out to try and reason with her. Seeing her frail figure, he had felt a pang of pity. But he couldn’t let her think she could get away
with this kind of behavior.
“My sister?” Rebekah laughed, as if she had just heard the funniest joke in the world.
Is this how a sister acts? Flirting with her brother-in-law and framing her own sister to send her to prison-all for her career?
Candice was the biggest beneficiary in all of this. Rebekah didn’t believe for a second
that she was innocent.
“Rebekah, what is wrong with you?” Benjamin’s frown deepened, his expression turning cold. “Candice didn’t have a real family until she was an adult. She’s been through a lot. Can’t you just let things go p>
He didn’t understand. He had personally come out to reason with her. What more did she want? How long was she going to keep this up?
A wave of irritation washed over him, making his expression even colder.
Seeing the pity for another woman in his eyes, Rebekah felt a fresh wave of sarcasm. His compassion for Candice was a cruelty to his own wife.
But it didn’t matter. They were getting a divorce. Soon, she would be gone.
She suddenly smiled, her voice surprisingly gentle. “I’m not angry. You should go back
inside p>

“Good girl.” The knot in Benjamin’s brow loosened slightly. A faint smile touched his lips. He reached out to smooth a stray strand of hair from her cheek. “I’m glad you’re not angry. Come back with me, back to the Forrester mansion p>
But his fingers met only empty air. He hadn’t even touched a single strand of her hair.
Benjamin’s expression froze, his face tightening.
“Rebekah, what is this p>
Rebekah took a step back, her voice calm. “I’m not going back. When I said I wanted a divorce, I meant it p>
Her words hung in the air, followed by a deafening silence.
After a long moment, Benjamin let out a sharp, humorless laugh, his eyes flashing
with anger. “I’ve had about enough of this nonsense.” He grabbed her wrist again, his fingers digging into the delicate skin, as if he wanted to crush the bones beneath.
Rebekah gasped in pain. She knew he was truly angry now.
“Dad, what are you doing?” a childish voice called out. Benjamin immediately let go.
It was Shawn.
Shawn ran over to them, tugging on Benjamin’s hand. “Come on, Aunt Candice is waiting for you. She said we can’t cut the cake until you get back p>
Shawn deliberately ignored Rebekah, waiting for her to break. If she begged him, said she wanted cake too, then maybe he would ask his grandparents to let her back in. It had always worked before. His grandparents loved him, not his mother. But Rebekah remained silent. She stood tall, her back straight, and turned to leave.
As she walked away, she heard Shawn’s innocent voice ask Benjamin, “Dad, are you really getting a divorce p>
“If you do, does that mean Aunt Candice can be my new mom? That would be great! I don’t want that wicked old witch anyway p>
Rebekah’s lips twisted into a bitter smile. It was all so meaningless. She couldn’t even summon the energy to be angry.
At the doorway, Benjamin paused and looked back at her retreating figure.
Her back was straight and unyielding, as slender and resilient as a reed, bending
but never breaking in the wind.
