Benjamin’s brow furrowed, a sudden emptiness gripping his chest, and he fought the impulse to grab her.
Just then, his phone rang, a timely interruption.
Benjamin answered, his face grim. Seeing it was his assistant, the dark cloud over him lifted slightly.
“Have you confirmed it?” he asked after picking up. “Will anyone from the Powell Group be at the gala in three days p>
His assistant’s reply was affirmative. “Yes, Mr. Forrester. Our sources confirm the Powell Group will be in attendance p>
A slow smile spread across Benjamin’s face, a look of profound relief. “Good. If we can get in with the Powells, Forrester Group might just be saved p>
Back home, Rebekah stared blankly from the sofa. She called her lawyer and asked him to draft divorce papers, letting out a long sigh of relief only after she’d hung up.
The next morning, however, when she arrived at the Forrester estate with the papers in hand, Benjamin was nowhere to be found. Instead, Candice was there, laughing and joking with Shawn.
The moment Shawn saw her, he shot up from the sofa. “What are you doing here? Didn’t you say you don’t want me anymore? Then get out of our house!” He was still fuming over how she had ignored him the day before. He was her own son, yet she
had treated him like that.
Rebekah couldn’t be bothered to argue. She lowered her gaze, her voice detached. “Even if I don’t want you, my blood still runs in your veins p>
Shawn’s face flushed with anger. “Who wants your blood?” he scoffed. “I wish we weren’t related at all p>
“Where’s Benjamin?” Rebekah found a spot on the sofa and sat down. Her hand and leg had mostly healed; aside from a twinge of pain when she walked, she was fine.
Candice, while soothing Shawn, said, “Rebekah, why are you looking for him? Are you here to make up? Benjamin told me everything, that you were just throwing a tantrum. It’s all my fault p>

He told you everything?” Rebekah frowned, then let out a cold, knowing laugh. He even told her about this. It seemed Candice had managed to worm her way into every corner of their relationship.
Candice quickly waved her hands. “Don’t get me wrong, Rebekah, Benjamin and I are just friends! It’s only natural for friends to give each other advice on how to win back their wives, right?” She chuckled. “Besides, I practically think of myself as a guy. After my late husband, I haven’t been interested in men at all p>
When Candice brought up her late husband, Shawn was afraid that would make her sad. His dad had told him that Candice’s husband had passed away just a year into their marriage, leaving her heartbroken for a long time.
He clung to her arm. “Aunt Candice! Don’t be sad. Dad and I both love you p>
“You silly boy!” Candice feigned annoyance. “What kind of talk is that? You’re going to ruin our platonic friendship p>
Rebekah had no time to watch their affectionate display. She frowned and tossed the divorce agreement onto the coffee table.
“When he gets back, have him sign this p>
Her voice was cool, ringing with an unnerving clarity in the living room. For a moment, both Shawn and Candice froze.
Shawn was the first to react, scrambling over to the table to look at the papers, a knot of panic forming in his stomach.
Was his mom being serious? Impossible! Didn’t she love him and his dad more than anything? Was she angry because he didn’t take her side last night? That had to be it. She was always so petty. She was just using these papers to threaten him.
With that thought, Shawn wrinkled his nose. “Is this really necessary, just because Dad and I didn’t side with you last night p>
