With that, she turned and walked into the villa.
Benjamin watched her go, a growing sense of panic tightening its grip on him. He had never seen her like this before—a mix of her usual gentleness with a new, unyielding strength.

Jensen sat in the back of the car, replaying the evening’s events in his mind. Rebekah had asked him to text her when he got home. Their relationship was definitely getting closer.
“Mr. Hawthorne,” his assistant, now back in his professional role after posing as a ride-share driver, began his report. “The matter you asked me to handle is proceeding smoothly p>

Over the next few days, Rebekah carefully tended to her injured wrist. When she wasn’t working on her designs, she was out of the house, having hired a private investigator to discreetly look into the hit-and-run case.
She had just parted ways with the P.I. when she received a call from the Forrester estate.
“Ma’am, you need to come home. The young master is sick p>
Rebekah hesitated for a moment, then decided to go back. Shawn was still her son, the child she had carried for nine months and brought into this world.
As she arrived home, she ran into Candice, who was also rushing in. Seeing that they were alone, Candice dropped her pretense of cordiality.
“What’s the point of you rushing back all flustered, Rebekah? Shawn is my little shadow now. He was calling for me even when he was sick. Why else do you think Benjamin called me p>

She swept past Rebekah and into the villa. Rebekah followed her inside.
As the youngest child and the
family’s darling, Shawn’s illness sent ripples of panic through the
household. Hortensia had even
cancelled her weekly bridge game to rush home and see him.
Shawn layan bed, his small face flushed with fever. The family doctor was applying a cooling patch to his forehead. The young master’s fever isn’t too high. He should be fine once it breaks p>
“Mommy… Mommy Shawn mumbled in his sleep, his voice soft and filled with a longing for comfort.
Rebekah remembered how he used
to be when he was sick, clinging to
her, wanting her to hold him and make him his favorite foods. Her heart softened and she started to move toward the bed.
But Candice got there first, tenderly stroking Shawn’s cheek. “Shawn, I’m here p>
Shawn’s eyes fluttered open. He looked at Candice, then his gaze shifted and landed on Rebekah, who was standing by the bed. His face immediately clouded over with disgust.
“Get out! I don’t want to see you! I only want Aunt Candice, not you p>
The pure malice in the child’s eyes was like a physical blow, as if she were something dirty.
