Seeing her like this, Benjamin felt a pang of guilt. He had really scared her. He softened his tone. “I was wrong this afternoon. I’ll never lock you in the attic again p>
Rebekah didn’t believe him. “Get out p>
He took a step closer. “I’m not divorcing you, and you’re not leaving this family. I’ll forget about what happened with that pretty boy. You’ll still be Mrs. Forrester. And think about it—with your injuries, where else would you go p>
Rebekah let out a cold laugh. “You know perfectly well who’s responsible for my injuries p>
Benjamin froze, a flicker of panic in his eyes. Did she know? “What are you talking about p>
“Benjamin, if you want to make this easy, let’s just go file for divorce. I don’t want any of your money. You can have Shawn. I just want out. Then you and Candice can do whatever you want p>
His panic turned to anger. He had been deceiving her for so long; there was no way she could have suddenly learned the truth. This was just jealousy.
“Rebekah, how many times do I have to tell you? Candice and I are just friends. Why can’t you let it go? She’s been faithful to her late husband’s memory all this time. Do you really think she’s like you, running around with other men p>
So that’s what he thought of her.
“Say what you will. I am divorcing you p>
Benjamin’s patience finally snapped. “Listen to me, Rebekah. This divorce isn’t up to you. And you are not to leave this estate. If you do, I can’t guarantee what will happen to that pretty boy of yours p>
Rebekah’s brow furrowed. “What are you going to do to him p>
“That depends on you p>
He shot her one last cold look, tossed her phone onto the bed, and walked out.
Rebekah sat down, her phone in her
hand. The Forresters were a powerful family in The Capital. If Benjamin really wanted to go after Jensen he had a hundred ways to do it. It was a harsh reality: Jensen, with no powerful connections, was vulnerable.
As she wrestled with her thoughts, her phone rang again. It was Jensen.
She took a deep breath before answering.
“Becky?” His voice was low, tinged with uncertainty.
“Jensen, thank you.” When Hortensia had mentioned that a man had called the
police, she had known it was him. She had no other friends.
“Are you okay?” he asked, his voice full of genuine concern. “You can’t stay there anymore. A friend of mine has an empty apartment you can. use. Move out and help you figure out the divorce p>
She could hear the sincerity in his voice, but she couldn’t let him get hurt because of her.
“No, it’s fine. I’m okay,” she said, fighting back tears. “Jensen, this is my family’s problem. Please, stay out of it p>
