Chapter 93
Nestled in Benjamin’s embrace, Candice’s expression turned cold and calculating. She knew Benjamin; pushing him too hard would only backfire. First, she had to get rid of that bitch Rebekah.
The next day, a package of medicated patches arrived from Daphne. True to her family’s legacy, the patches worked wonders. After just two days, the pain in Rebekah’s leg had subsided significantly.
Rebekah had been avoiding Benjamin, terrified of another outburst. Thankfully, he seemed to have lost interest in forcing himself on her. He was out of the house from dawn till dusk, and on the rare occasions they crossed paths, he was the first to walk away. It was a relief.
On the third day, Rebekah chose a formal, full-length dress and prepared to leave. She ran into Shawn on the stairs, who was also on his way out. He was dressed in a smart little suit, his cherubic face flushed with excitement. His illness had passed, and he was due back at school soon.
When he saw Rebekah, his eyes lit up for a moment before his brow furrowed. “Are you all dressed up to go see that pretty boy again p>
Candice had been visiting Shawn frequently over the past two days, filling his head with stories of Rebekah’s infidelity. Any goodwill he might have felt toward his mother had evaporated, replaced by renewed resentment.
Rebekah was taken aback by his question. “I’m going to a designer conference at The Victory Chop House p>
“Some conference! I bet you’re just going to ruin Aunt Candice’s performance p>
“What?” Rebekah was confused by his outburst. What did this have to do with Candice?
“There’s a business event at The Victory Chop House today, and Aunt Candice was invited to perform. You’re going to try and sabotage her, aren’t you p>
The little boy’s cheeks were red with anger. Rebekah stared at him for a long moment before sighing. “No, I’m not.” His hostility was exhausting.
“You’d better not be! If you dare to do anything to Aunt Candice, I’ll never forgive you!” he shouted before stomping down the stairs.
Rebekah paid him no mind and followed him out. They arrived at The Victory Chop House at the same time. A greeter at the door
recognized Shawn and immediately welcomed him inside, clearly havings been given instructions. But when he saw Rebekah, he stopped her politely.
“I’m sorry, miss, but the hotel has been booked for a private event today. Only invited guests are permitted. Do you have an invitation p>
Rebekah was confused. Quentin hadn’t mentioned anything about an invitation. “No, but Quentin invited me to the designer conference here p>
“Mr. Quinn?” The greeter looked surprised, as Quentin was a major shareholder of the hotel.
Shawn let out a contemptuous snort. “Designer conference? Your drawings are terrible. How could you possibly be invited to a designer conference You’re just hefe ta cause trouble and embarrass the Forrester family!” He pointed a finger at the greeter. “Don’t you dare let her in p>
Shawn’s status was not to be trifled with. The greeter’s expression hardened “Causing trouble? No one dares to cause trouble at our hotel. If you don’t leave now, I’ll have to remove you p>
Shawn shot Rebekah a triumphant, defiant look. Frustrated, Rebekah was about
to call Quentin when a familiar figure got out of a car at the curb.
