It was a new day, and James was trying to make sure everything in the pack was going smoothly, as the Alpha was still grieving his loss.
It was now his duty to step in until Aiden was ready again. He had heard rumors that Amelia’s family was laying her to rest today. She was going to be buried.
Deep down, he wished Aiden would attend the funeral and pay his last respects, but he wasn’t himself. James sighed softly and signed the paper brought to him for the donation to the students in the pack school.
As he was signing the paper, a black jeep pulled into the compound. James was curious –
visitors.
they weren’t expecting any
The door opened, and a man stepped out wearing an all–black suit. A woman also stepped out, wearing a black gown paired with black shades and black heels. Her hair was hidden beneath a black hat.
James’s mouth fell open the moment he recognized the couple.
They were Aiden’s parents — Alpha Alaric Miller and Luna Donna Miller.
“Alpha, Luna… I wasn’t expecting you. I mean… we weren’t expecting you,” James swallowed hard, a nervous look on his face.
“What brings you here?” he asked.
Luna Donna stared at him with no expression, but Alpha Alaric, on the other hand, had a cold glare, one filled with anger and unspoken words.
“Where is my son?” he asked, ignoring James’s question.
“He’s in the guest room,” James muttered as they walked past him and into the mansion. James ran a hand down his head. He knew Aiden’s parents well.
They never came unless it was urgent.
They must have heard about what had happened. Now they were in a bigger mess.
He quickly followed them.
Meanwhile, Aiden had woken up. He had walked to the bathroom, taken a bath, and asked a maid to bring him an all–black outfit.
Even though he didn’t feel like leaving the house today, it was the day Amelia would be laid to rest. He needed to attend. He stared at his reflection in the mirror, his eyes swollen. He sighed.
He buttoned his shirt, ready to leave, when the door opened and, to his surprise, his mom and dad walked in — both dressed in black.
“Mom. Dad…” Aiden called out, surprise in his voice.
“Oh, my sweet boy… I’m so sorry about what happened to you… I’m so sorry,” Luna Donna said as she moved toward Aiden and pulled him into a hug. Aiden didn’t hug her back.
“I’m fine, Mom. What brings you here?” His voice was as cold as ice, no hint of emotion.
“Aiden, you don’t have to pretend like you’re not in pain. It’s okay to feel p>
“I said I am fine.” He cut her off, and Donna fell silent, nodding as she took a step back and stood beside her husband.

“Aiden, we need to talk,” Alpha Alaric, who hadn’t spoken until now, finally said. Aiden raised his head and glared at him plainly.
“We’ll talk when I get back. I need to attend my wife’s funeral,” he said.
Alpha Alaric scoffed, his eyes filled with contempt.
“Point of correction, your ex–wife. As far as I’m aware, you accused this woman of killing her child. You rejected her, knowing she was pregnant. You went back to your ex. You pushed her to her death and now you speak of attending her funeral? ”
He took a breath, his tone bitter.
“You have no shame, Aiden. I didn’t raise you to be a coward. As much as I never wanted you to marry that woman, she was your destined mate and you ruined everything. Now you’ll have to live with it for the rest of your life p>
“I have to go, Dad,” Aiden muttered and tried walking out, but then Alaric suddenly slapped him hard across the face, making him stagger back.
James flinched. Donna swallowed hard.
“You will not attend the funeral. Not while I’m here,” Alaric said, firm and final.
Aiden clenched his fist, anger paired with rage obvious in his eyes. His eyes flashed red.
“If you’ve forgotten, I’m the Alpha of this pack. It’s punishable by law to lay hands on an Alpha,” Aiden muttered.
Alaric stepped forward, locking eyes with his son. They were almost the same height- Aiden just slightly taller. The tension between them was thick, sending shivers down Donna’s and James’s spines.
“You may be Alpha of this pack,” Alaric said, voice low and controlled, “but I’m still your father. I still have the power to remove you from the position I gave you. Don’t test my patience, Aiden. Don’t p>
He paused, then continued.
“I built this pack with sweat and blood. I won’t sit back and watch you destroy everything I’ve built.
Since you want to go to the funeral, go ahead. Leave. But the moment you step out of this house, you’ve been stripped of your Alpha title. And even though I have no desire to be Alpha again, there are plenty of others happy to take your place p>
With that, he turned and walked out of the room.
Aiden paused, staring at Donna. She looked at him for a moment… then turned and followed her husband.
James sighed softly, watching as Aiden sat weakly on the bed.
As much as he wanted to attend the funeral, he couldn’t.
He knew his father too well. Alaric would strip him of everything.
He had already lost it all. The only thing he had left was the title Alpha.
“Aiden,” James said gently, taking a step toward him. “I know how much Amelia meant to you. I could help you cover up… he’d never know you went p>
Aiden shook his head.
“It’s no use. He’s right anyway.
cut all ties with her the moment I rejected her… What’s the use of attending the funeral p>
