At the dining table. Aiden sat beside Arthur while Cassia sat directly across from him. Kate served the food quietly, bowing before she slipped out of the room, leaving a heavy silence in her wake.
Arthur dug into his plate right away, humming lightly as he ate. Aiden’s gaze shifted to Cassia. She wasn’t eating. She was staring blankly at her plate as though it carried all the weight of her past. Slowly, her eyes lifted and met his.
For a moment, Aiden forgot how to breathe. Those emerald eyes had once been his home, once filled with warmth and tenderness that melted him whole. But now? Now, all he saw was ice. In those eyes lay grief, betrayal, and fury and a reflection of every wound he had given her.
Cassia’s heart clenched painfully. His stare dragged her back to the hospital room where she had sat broken and unconscious after Eva’s death, waiting for him to hold her. Instead, he had walked away, leaving her shattered and alone. That memory burned sharper than any blade.
Arthur noticed the stillness at the table and glanced between his mother and Aiden. The tension thickened, suffocating. He quickly spoke up, forcing a smile.

Aiden blinked and gave a small smile, ruffling the boy’s hair before picking up his spoon. He scooped some rice and sauce, but when he tasted it, he froze. That flavor, the tang of the spices, the warmth of the sauce, it was the same dish Amelia used to make him. His favorite. His throat tightened. After all these years, he finally tasted his favorite food again.
His gaze drifted back to her, unspoken questions swimming in his eyes.

“What? No,” Aiden quickly shook his head. “Of course I love it.” He chewed slowly, savoring.
“I told you, you’d love it,” Arthur said proudly.
“Yeah,” Aiden chuckled softly, “and just so you know, this has always been my favorite dish p>
Arthur’s eyes widened. “Really? It’s mine too p>
Surprise flickered across Aiden’s face, followed by something deeper. “That’s great then p>
“See? Not only do we look alike, we even share the same favorite food.” Arthur grinned, his innocence making Aiden’s chest tighten.
Aiden laughed quietly, but inside, his heart was a storm. Coincidence? Or blood? His mind replayed the memory of the pregnancy test he’d found years ago, the one that haunted him. Could Arthur…? His eyes lingered on Cassia, searching her face. But her gaze was steel, as if daring him to ask.
Finally, Cassia broke the tension. “Arthur, go to your room. I need to speak with Alpha Aiden… alone p>
Arthur hesitated, glancing between them. He nodded quietly, pushed back his chair, and padded upstairs. Cassia’s eyes followed her son until he was out of sight. Only then did she turn to Aiden.
“You should leave.” Her voice was sharp, steady.
“Amelia, we need to talk p>
“There is nothing left for us to talk about, Aiden.” She rose from her seat, but his voice caught her mid-step.

“Amelia, I saw the video, the blood, your body. You were dead. And now here you are… alive. I deserve to know what happened p>
Cassia turned slowly, her lips twisting into a bitter smile. “An explanation? Next time you send men after me, make sure they finish the job properly. Because if it were me, Aiden, I’d never let you take another breath p>
Confusion creased his brow. “What are you talking about p>
Her laugh was bitter, hollow. “Are you really going to stand there and pretend you don’t know p>
“Pretend? Amelia, I don’t understand what you’re saying p>
Those words snapped something inside her. She flared, eyes brimming with unshed tears. “You liar! You divorced me, rejected me, accused me of killing our daughter! I lost my wolf because of you. And that wasn’t enough, you sent people to kill me! Do you have any idea the hell I crawled out from? You are a monster p>
Her voice broke, and with it, the tears she fought so hard to hold back. But she quickly wiped them away, squaring her shoulders. She would not show weakness before him. The Amelia he betrayed had died seven years ago. This was Cassia Wrenmoor.
Aiden’s chest constricted. “I made mistakes, I know. I thought I was protecting you. I was blind, foolish. And I am sorry. But I swear on the goddess, Amelia, I never sent anyone to kill you. I would never.” His voice cracked, desperation in every word.
She wanted to believe him because of how convincing he looked. But the image of his cold, emotionless eyes when he’d cast her aside burned too deep. “Sorry doesn’t fix anything. Get out of my house, Aiden. Now p>
“Amelia, please p>
“Don’t call me that!” she snapped, her voice slicing through the air. “My name is Cassia Wrenmoor. Amelia Lopez is dead. Now GET OUT p>
He stood frozen for a moment, then his jaw clenched. Finally, he nodded and turned away, his steps heavy as he left.
The door clicked shut. Cassia locked it immediately, pressing her back against the door. The tears she had held finally spilled, her sobs muffled into her hands.
How could he stand here and lie? She had heard those men speak his name before they left her bleeding. He was a liar, and she would make him pay.
But when she looked up, her heart dropped, Arthur stood by the staircase, his small hands gripping the railing, his wide eyes watching her.
“Arthur?” she whispered, rushing to him. “I thought you were in your room p>
“I was,” he said softly. “But I heard you and Alpha Aiden arguing. Did… did he hurt you, Mommy p>
“No, honey.” She forced a shaky smile. “He didn’t p>
Arthur frowned. “But p>
“Arthur, please,” she cut him off, kneeling before him. “Promise me you’ll stay away from Alpha Aiden. No questions. Just promise p>
His little face crumpled in confusion, his lips parting as though to argue. He liked Aiden, he felt a strange bond with him. But then he looked at his mother, at the sadness hiding behind her strong front.
After a long pause, he nodded. “Okay, Mommy p>
