At the Miller mansion, Sofia’s car screeched to a halt. She stepped out, heels clicking sharply against the stone floor as she stormed inside.
The moment she entered, her eyes landed on Aiden and James standing by the stairs, deep in conversation. The sight of him made her chest tighten, but her thoughts instantly drifted back to the news everyone was whispering about.
Aiden is mine. He belongs to me. I won’t let anyone take him from me, not even Amelia.
Aiden turned then, their gazes locking. His frown was immediate, and it burned into her like fire. He was still angry. She smirked inwardly, covering her unease with pride, and walked toward him.
“What’s this news flying around, Aiden?” she demanded, her voice sharp. “Do you have any idea what you’re doing? You’re ruining your reputation, and all because of that woman p>
Aiden said nothing. He didn’t even spare her a second glance as he moved to walk past.
Sofia’s jaw clenched. She needed his attention, needed him to see her. “Aiden…” She staggered suddenly, clutching her head.
He froze, suspicion flashing in his eyes. For a moment he thought she was faking. Then she collapsed to the floor, eyes shut.
“Sofia!” His voice rang with urgency. He and James rushed to her side. Aiden scooped her into his arms without hesitation and carried her upstairs to their room. He laid her carefully on the bed.
“Call the doctor,” he ordered.
James pulled out his phone, but before the call connected, Sofia’s eyes fluttered open. “No… don’t. I’m fine,” she whispered, feigning weakness.
James frowned, sliding his phone back into his pocket.
Aiden touched her forehead, searching for fever, but found nothing. Still, concern flickered in his eyes. For Sofia, it was enough. He cares. He still cares. A small smile threatened her lips.
“I’m okay,” she murmured. “Just… my head hurts p>
“Then rest. I’ll have the maid bring you some medicine,” Aiden said, already rising to leave.
“Wait!” She sat up, desperation in her tone. “Where are you going? Can’t you stay with me…just this once p>
“I have work, Sofia. I can’t. James will stay with you. If you need anything, ask him p>
“James can’t,” she argued quickly. “He has to pick Ethan up from school p>
“It’s fine,” Aiden cut in, his voice final. “James will stay. I’ll pick Ethan myself.” Without another word, he walked out.
Sofia’s heart sank. She clenched her fists, her disappointment raw. She turned a dagger glare on James.
James sighed, lowering himself into a chair. “What? You expect me to hold your hand until you fall asleep p>
“Why are you even sitting here? I don’t need your company p>
“Then stop pretending.” His voice was flat. “You fooled Aiden, but you’ll never fool me p>
Her cheeks flushed with fury. “What did you just say p>

“I know nothing is wrong with you but I’m not surprised. Typical Sofia Devereux,” he muttered, shaking his head.
Before she could snap back, loud commotion erupted downstairs. Both of them turned toward the noise and hurried out of
the room.

Downstairs, Aiden was already by the door, car keys in hand, ready to leave for Ethan’s school. He reached for the handle, only for the door to swing open.
Alpha Alaric stepped inside.
“Dad?” Aiden’s brows knitted. “What are you doing here p>
“I’ve been calling you,” Alaric barked, his tone sharp, “and you’ve ignored me. I saw the news. What was that p>
Aiden’s jaw tightened. “I did what was right p>
“What was right?” Alaric’s voice boomed. “You don’t decide what’s right for you. you do what’s right for the pack. Not yourself p>
“You saw what Cole did earlier. He disrespected Amelia and disrespected my child p>
“And you stripped him of his position. Was that not enough?,” Alaric shot back. “You brought shame into this house p>
“It wasn’t enough!” Aiden’s voice thundered. “I stood at that podium years ago and lied. I told the world Amelia killed our daughter. I said she committed suicide. I ruined her life because of my grief, my pride and because you asked me to. She was the victim, Father not the villain. I have to fix it p>
Alaric’s eyes narrowed. “And how do you intend to do that p>
“I’m reopening the case. I’ll find out who killed Eva and who tried to kill Amelia p>
“You’ll only spread fear,” Alaric warned. “You’ll divide the pack. They’ll hate you, Aiden. And worse, they’ll turn to Amelia p>
Aiden stepped forward, his voice steady but laced with steel. “Let them hate me. As long as their hatred isn’t aimed at her, I’ll carry it p>
The words hit Alaric like a strike. His hand flew before he could stop himself, smacking hard across Aiden’s face.
The crack echoed in the hall.
Aiden’s head turned with the force of it. He stood still, jaw tight, veins bulging across his temple. His wolf snarled inside, demanding he fight back. But he held it down, his fists trembling at his sides.
“You will not destroy this family’s name while I’m alive,” Alaric hissed. “You’ll hold another press conference. You’ll take back your words. Amelia is here for one purpose only, to treat this disease. When she’s done, she’ll be discarded. For good p>
Aiden’s eyes burned with rage. Slowly, he leaned closer, his voice low and unshakable. “No. Not this time. No one touches Amelia. If anyone tries,” His lips curled into a snarl. “I’ll cut off their head myself and feed it to the rogues. And you are not excluded,, Father p>
Alaric froze, a shiver crawling down his spine. For the first time, his son’s defiance stood like iron before him.
