The moment Cassia slid into her car, her eyes locked briefly with Aiden’s. His gaze was sharp, doubtful, as though he was peeling back every layer of her. Her fingers trembled on the steering wheel. She broke eye contact quickly, started the engine, and drove off, heart hammering.
He cannot find out. He can never know Arthur is his.
Aiden stood there, watching the car disappear into the distance. His chest felt heavy, his thoughts a storm. Arthur’s sad little face replayed in his mind, eyes dim, shoulders slumped and he knew Cassia was behind it. She’d asked the boy to stay away from him.
It broke something deep inside.
He loved that child more than he could explain. The connection was undeniable, stronger even than what he felt for Ethan. And the more he thought about it, the more the pieces lined up. The pregnancy test he’d once found. Amelia’s sudden disappearance thinking she was dead. Arthur’s uncanny resemblance to him.
Is Arthur my son?
The question consumed him, tearing at his soul. He raked his hands down his hair, his jaw tightening. He climbed back into his car, forcing his focus on Ethan in the passenger seat.
By the time Aiden got home, it was already late. He carried Ethan out of the car and held his hand as they walked inside.
“Daddy, do you know why Arthur was sad?” Ethan asked quietly.
Aiden paused, not sure how to respond. Even if he had an answer, he couldn’t tell Ethan, he was still just a child.
“I don’t know, Ethan,” Aiden said at last. “Go to your room and change out of your clothes. I’ll ask the maid to make dinner for you p>
Ethan nodded and headed upstairs, leaving Aiden standing there alone with his thoughts.
Aiden stood rooted in the hall, his mind tormented.
Cassia shouldn’t involve Arthur in our war. He’s just a child. He deserves joy, not this heaviness.
The thought shredded him.
He wandered toward the kitchen, but dinner was already being set by the maids. He turned to leave when James descended
the stairs.
“How’s Sofia?” Aiden asked, remembering he’d left her under James’s watch earlier.
“She’s fine,” James replied. His eyes scanned Aiden. “But you’re not. What’s wrong? Is it about the argument with Alpha
Alaric p>
“No.” Aiden’s voice was raw, strained. “It’s Amelia. She’s dragged Arthur into this. Told him to stay away from me. And I saw his face, James… he’s hurting. He’s just a little boy, he deserves to be happy. She had no right to make him sad.” His fists clenched. “It isn’t fair p>
James watched him, brow furrowed. “You sound like you’re his father p>
Aiden’s voice dropped, a whisper trembling with conviction. “What if I am p>

“Look at him. James. He looks like me. Every feature. And the way she shields him from me like she never wants me to know. Remember the pregnancy test I found before she disappeared? What if that child lived? What if Arthur is my son p>
James stared, taken aback by the intensity in Aiden’s eyes. For a moment he felt Aiden might be right but then again, Amelia was married and Damien is the father.
“You’re letting emotions cloud you. She’s married to Damien Blackwood. Arthur is their son. You need to calm down before you lose control p>
Aiden shook his head stubbornly. “No. I can feel it. Damien’s absence only makes it clearer. She’s hiding something p>
James sighed. “Speaking of Damien, he left for Velaris. Something urgent came up and he would be back p>
“Good,” Aiden muttered. “I hate that man. One less obstacle p>
He turned to leave.
“Where are you going? It’s past nine,” James asked.
Aiden’s jaw tightened. “To see her. Tonight. I need answers p>
“You can’t keep pressing her like this,” James warned. “Give her space. If you corner her, you’ll only push her further away p>
“I don’t care,” Aiden said flatly. “I need the truth.” He strode out, car keys in hand, and with that he walked away.
James exhaled heavily, rubbing the bridge of his nose. “He’s unstoppable when it comes to her.” He shook his head. Why did he ever let her go in the first place?
The answer came to him when Sofia’s heels clicked against the stairs. She appeared, arms crossed, eyes sharp.
“Where’s Aiden? I thought I heard him p>
“He left,” James said simply.
“Left? At this hour? Where? We were supposed to have dinner together p>
“I don’t know where he went. And honestly, just have dinner without him,” James said coldly.
Sofia stiffened. “You’re his beta. You should know where he is at all times p>
“And you’re his wife. Shouldn’t you?” James shot back, eyes narrowing.
Her lips parted, but no retort came.
“Goodnight,” James muttered, brushing past her.
Sofia stood frozen, fury building inside. Her nails dug into her palms, veins pulsing with rage. She didn’t care about James, at least not now. Her mind was elsewhere.
Tonight, Amelia and her son would burn to the ground, while screaming. And when Dante calls to tell her the job is done, she would celebrate.
Her lips curved into a cold smile. Finally…she was going to be rid of her problem.
