Cassia froze. Their gazes collided, locked so deeply it was as though the years had folded back, binding them together again. Their bodies were close…too close…close enough that she could feel the heat radiating off him.

This was stronger, rawer. It felt like it was seven years ago all over again. Her throat went dry as her eyes betrayed her, wandering from his gaze down to the curve of his lips, the subtle twitch of his Adam’s apple.
The ache that spread through her chest was unbearable. It was the echo of the love they had once shared, the love she thought would last forever. Back then, just the sound of his voice could unravel her, and his touch, it used to set fire to every part of her. Everything had been perfect, until he had shattered it all.
He had come home one day, demanded a divorce, then ripped her soul apart when he blamed her for their daughter’s death. When she had needed him most, he had looked her in the eye and rejected her. That memory alone clawed at her heart, tearing it open as though it had only happened yesterday.
She inhaled sharply and forced the softness out of her gaze. Whatever spark that had tried to reignite between them, she crushed it with a glare. The warmth of her wolf, the electrifying pull of his scent, it all vanished in an instant, replaced by bitter ice.
Jerking her hands free, Cassia stepped back, creating a cold, deliberate space between them.
Aiden stood frozen, watching the shift in her eyes. Just moments ago, there had been a flicker of softness, hope, even. Now all he saw was hatred burning back at him. His chest tightened painfully.
“Coming here with my son was a mistake,” she said flatly, her voice trembling at the edges though she tried to mask it. “I’ll leave now. Just… get out of my way.” She refused to look at him.
“I can’t let you go,” Aiden whispered, his voice breaking in its restraint.
She lifted her head, glaring at him with venom.
“It’s too dangerous,” he continued, desperation bleeding through his words. “Someone out there wants to hurt you, Amelia. I can’t let that happen. I won’t p>

Her voice broke. Tears welled, blurring her vision. She turned away, her shoulders shaking.
“Amelia…” he whispered, reaching out, but she pulled back, denying him even the comfort of touch.
She shut her eyes briefly, forcing the tears back down. She wouldn’t break in front of him. Not again.
“Amelia, I’m sorry,” Aiden said, his voice thick with remorse.
Her head snapped back toward him. “If you had followed me, if you had tried to find me seven years ago and said those words. ‘I’m sorry…maybe… Just maybe I would have forgiven you. But seven years have passed, Aiden. Seven years! You’re too late p>
“That’s not true.” His voice wavered. “I tried to find you… I realized I’d made the worst mistake of my life. I…I even found the pregnancy test you left in the dressing table.” His throat tightened as tears brimmed in his
eyes.
Cassia stilled, stunned. And then she saw them, tears. Aiden Miller, an alpha feared by all, crying. She had never seen him break like this before. For just a moment, her heart softened, the ice inside her cracking at the sight of him undone.
“I tried to find you, Amelia,” he continued hoarsely. “But then I heard the news of your death…” His voice fractured, the grief in it almost unbearable.
“And you gave up,” she shot back bitterly, her eyes blazing. “Did you even come to my funeral, Aiden p>

“You didn’t,” she hissed, shaking her head. “Of course you didn’t. Why would you? You were too busy with your pregnant ex, now your wife. Busy in her bed while I was mourning, while I was dying inside. I will never forgive you, Aiden. Never p>
He broke then, shoulders trembling as he sank to his knees before her. His hands clasped together, his eyes shut, tears spilling freely down his face.
“Please,” he begged, his voice raw. “Please forgive me, Amelia. I’ll do anything. I’ll give you anything. Just forgive me.” He lifted his gaze, his anguish laid bare as their eyes locked.
Cassia’s chest tightened painfully. For a fleeting second, she almost faltered. But then the memories returned, all the pain, all the betrayal. Her expression hardened again.
