James’s words froze Cassia in place. Her whole body went numb. He kept the clothes? For seven years?
Her eyes drifted to the gown in her hand, her throat tightening as memories crashed over her. That night came rushing back, the night she had worn it after shopping, the way Aiden had walked in from a board meeting and his lips parting when he saw her. His eyes dark with hunger. And then his mouth had been on hers, his hands desperately roaming all over her and the night consumed in fire and passion.
She swallowed hard, pushing the dress back as if it burned her fingers.
“Thank you, James,” she whispered, her voice brittle.

She watched his back as he left, the door clicking softly shut. For a moment, silence wrapped the room, and then the tears came…hot, bitter.
Coming back here was torture. Every corner, every object dragged her back into memories she had buried. And now these clothes, he kept like relics. Why? Was it some twisted plan to break her resolve? To make her forgive him? Never, she would never forgive him.
She stuffed the clothes back into the wardrobe, slamming it shut as though sealing the past away.
Turning to the shopping bags James had brought, she pulled out the clothes. Perfect fit. She frowned. The phone gleamed expensive, the laptop too. She sighed. I’ll pay him back tomorrow. I don’t want debts, especially not from Aiden’s Beta.
Grabbing a nightdress, she slipped into the bathroom, took her bath, and came out with damp hair clinging to her skin. She dried her hair. The pajamas clung softly as she climbed into bed, curling beside Arthur.
Her hand pressed against her chest as her mind replayed what happened in Aiden’s study. His scent. His tears. The sparks that shouldn’t exist anymore. Her wolf stirring when near him. She thought her wolf was dead, but why does it suddenly feel awake whenever Aiden was close to her.
Why only with him? Why now? Was the moon goddess mocking her?
She shut her eyes tighter, forcing away the image of him kneeling and broken. For a flicker, she had almost softened. Almost. But she buried it. She had to.
Sleep finally dragged her under.
Meanwhile, in his study, Aiden stood by the window, eyes fixed on the dark night, his jaw tight and his chest heavy. His mind was full of Amelia. Her tears. Her voice breaking. Her coldness.

Slowly, he turned and James’s breath caught. His Alpha’s eyes were red, streaks of tears staining his face. For the first time, he saw Aiden Miller crying.

“She hates me,” Aiden rasped. His voice broke. He slammed his fist on the desk, splitting the wood in two. James flinched.
“I destroyed her, James. I broke her. I left her when she needed me most. I accused her of killing our child. I His voice fractured, his breath shuddering. “She lost the baby because of me p>
He punched the wall, his knuckles splitting, blood dripping.
“Aiden, calm down!” James rushed forward, but Aiden shoved him hard, sending him crashing against the wall. His claws and fangs flashed, his wolf raging to the surface. His eyes glowed red, wild and dangerous.
James groaned on the floor. That sight snapped Aiden back. His features shifted, returning human, and horror filled his face. He stumbled toward James.

“No,” Aiden muttered, voice hoarse. “I lost control.” His hands trembled.
James studied him quietly. He knew. He understood the torment Aiden carried. The regret eating him alive. But seven years had passed. Amelia was scarred too deep to forgive him easily.
Aiden dropped heavily on the couch, burying his face in his hands.
