“Luna Amelia, is the Alpha bothering you?” one of the men asked, stepping forward.

Cassia’s lips parted to correct them. I’m not Luna anymore, I’m Cassia but she stopped herself. That wasn’t the point right now.
Because from the look on their faces, these people weren’t just curious. They were furious, ready to devour Aiden alive. Hatred, disappointment, even disgust all of it flashed in their eyes.
Cassia’s heart clenched in confusion. Why? Why did they suddenly look at their Alpha this way?
“You don’t have to be scared, Luna Amelia,” another said firmly. “Tell us, and we’ll protect you p>
She swallowed hard and turned to Aiden. He wasn’t moving, wasn’t defending himself. Then finally, his voice cut through the air.
“You all should return to your duties. Everything is fine. Amelia is fine.” His tone was steady, but Cassia could see the tension in his shoulders.
“Doesn’t look like everything is fine here,” a woman interjected.

widened. These were the same people who once adored and feared him… what changed?
“I am your Alpha, and I command you to leave. Now,” Aiden barked, his voice deepening, claws threatening to emerge. Fear flickered in their eyes, but still they didn’t move.
“I don’t think you deserve to hold that title Alpha anymore,” another woman said coldly. “After everything. you did to Luna Amelia… you broke her, painted her as the villain when all along she was the victim. We mourned her like she was dead and it was your fault p>
Cassia froze as realization hit her. The press conference. Aiden had stood before the world and taken all the blame himself. He’d destroyed his own reputation to clear her name.
He knew this would happen. He knew his people would turn on him. And yet, he did it anyway. For her.
“You might be the Alpha,” another spat, “but you cannot fight us all p>
“Luna Amelia, come. We’ll protect you from him p>
Cassia’s breath caught. Aiden’s fists trembled, claws now sliding out, his control fraying. If this continued, it would be a bloodbath with his people against him.
Her chest tightened. She hated him, yes. But she couldn’t stand by and let this happen. Not because of her.
“It’s fine. I’m okay. Alpha Aiden isn’t trying to hurt me,” she said quickly, stepping forward. She positioned herself in front of him, hiding the sight of his clawed hands with her body.

“I know,” she cut them off. Her voice shook, but she held firm. “People make mistakes. And those mistakes. shouldn’t define them forever. What matters is when someone tries to fix it… when they’re truly sorry p>
They shifted uneasily, exchanging glances. Cassia’s fists clenched. She didn’t know if this was the right choice. Aiden had shattered her once, broken her beyond repair. But right now, she wasn’t protecting him for his sake, she was protecting the pack from tearing itself apart.
“Aiden has been a good Alpha to you all,” she continued. “He’s done his best to protect you all, and he deserves your respect. Whatever happened between him and me is our matter, not yours. Don’t interfere p>
Silence fell. Then slowly, heads bowed.
“We’re sorry, Luna Amelia… sorry, Alpha Aiden,” they murmured before dispersing.
Cassia exhaled shakily, relief flooding her. She turned her head slightly. “Maybe you should retract those claws. They won’t be of any use now.” Without waiting for his response, she walked to the car, slipped into the back seat, and slammed the door.
Her face was tight, her frown deep. I hope I did the right thing, she thought bitterly.
Aiden stood frozen where she’d left him. Her words echoed in his head, wrapping around his broken soul. She had defended him. Even if only for a moment, she had stood by his side.
He stared down at his hands as his claws slid back in, then moved to the driver’s seat. Sliding in, he glanced at her through the rearview mirror.
“You should sit in the front,” he said quietly, almost pleading.
Her jaw tightened. “You should be thankful I’m in your car at all. If it bothers you, I can get out.” She reached for the handle, but before she could, he pressed the lock button.
The click echoed like a heartbeat. Her head snapped up, eyes narrowing.
“I’m sorry,” Aiden murmured, his voice breaking. “But I can’t let you leave p>
She rolled her eyes, turning to the window, shutting him out.
The drive was silent, heavy. Cassia stared at the passing streets, refusing to look at him. Aiden kept stealing glances, each one hitting him harder than the last.

Her hair framed her face, her profile lit by the morning light. She looked like a vision, both unreachable and utterly his. His wolf purred at the sight, pushing him to stop the car, to claim her, to beg her to let him in again. He gripped the wheel tighter, holding himself back.
He noticed her rubbing her arms lightly, a subtle shiver. Without a word, he adjusted the air, switching it from cold to warm.
Cassia’s head turned. Their gazes locked in the rearview mirror for a split second. Electricity. Heat. Memory. She looked away quickly, biting her lip.
