I assumed the rush of nerves down the bond was from my mate driving the car at a breakneck speed, which she does every time she is behind the wheel, but when it spiked with fear and then panic, I knew something wasn’t right.
“Something’s wrong with Raven!” I bolt from the table upright when I hear her voice through the mind–link. “She was headed to Ayla’s.” Thane and Damon both stand, throwing their chairs back as well. “She isn’t answering the mind–link p>
“She didn’t make it to our house,” Thane says after mind–linking Ayla. The three of us are already on the move down the stairwell.
“Theo is heading to your place with a car full,” Damon says, meaning a car full of guards. “ETA less than five minutes p>
“I am calling code black. Get every guard we have to the borders minus Theo’s group.” Thane instructs Damon as we climb into Thane’s SUV. I’ve already pulled a gun out from underneath the seat.
We race out of town. “Our northwestern border is reporting that an unknown sedan crossed through the reception booth into the territory, stating Alpha business around 20 minutes ago,” Damon states, shoving a magazine into his weapon.
“They would have needed to provide proper documentation proving that they had business or provide proof they have the clearance to enter without it. I have no appointments today.” Thane growls.
“The scheduling system is down, so they checked the ID and let them in.” Damon sighs while having his mind–link conversations. I do not give a single fuck.
I just want my girl.
“A damn mind–link would have sufficed. It would be the proper thing to freaking do!” Thane snarls and then points to my side of the road.
“Look at the guardrail p>
I have the door open and am already running down the embankment as the car slows to a stop. It is apparent from the sign lying half over and the paint down the guardrail that Fireball has been in an accident.
She is usually good at handling her speed.
The further I go down the embankment, the more pieces of the vehicle I find scattered around the ground and in the trees. Shortly, the mangled car comes into view. “RAVEN!” I yell, noticing papers everywhere in the snow and sludge.
Shit. The census papers.
“WE NEED ALL THESE PAPERS! I yell at the guys somewhere behind me as I become laser–focused on the car. The air smells of fresh blood, and there is glass all around the driver’s side. The vehicle itself is mangled and upside down. “RAVEN!” I yell again as I hit my knees, shoving my head through the car window. The airbag’s didn’t deploy.

She Better Do It Again
She isn’t here.
A
I crawl into the car and throw papers around. The shoebox containing our opossum is empty, but it’s not something I can consider at the
moment.
Raven is gone.
I crawl back out the window on my stomach as Damon’s feet come into view. “The sedan just drove through the gate and almost took out the reception booth. We need to go p>
They’re leaving with my mate.
Artemis snarls in my head.
Rage consumes me.
“I’ve got someone coming to try and salvage the records, but we have to move now.” Thane pulls me up from the ground. “She’s bleeding heavily, but there isn’t any indication she is down here.” I understand he is trying to keep me in the right headspace so I do not lose
control.
We start running up the embankment. “We can use your bond to find her. Follow its pull.” Thane says as we run for his SUV and climb in.
“I’ve got something more accurate than the bond.” I pull out my phone and open my app.
“What can be more accurate than the mate pull?” Thane speeds away down the highway while mind–linking.
“A tracker.” I smile as I see Fireball’s blue dot moving northbound.
“A tracker on what?” Damon asks, clearly confused.
“On my girl.” I can’t wait to kill everybody. I just wish I had some explosives.
“She wears a tracker?” Thane asks, probably getting ideas for Ayla.
“No, I put one in her ass. ” I wiggle my eyebrows up and down, much happier now that I know I’m going to find my mate.
I am excited, actually. I will find her, kill everybody, rescue her, and then we will bone all night.
“YOU WHAT?” Thane and Damon yell in unison.
“Not like that, you freaks. I shot it into her ass cheek during her heat. You know, abandonment issues and all p>
“How do you shoot a tracker into somebody’s ass, Cyrus? ” Thane asks. He genuinely sounds curious, which surprises me because he should know better.

“With the little gun it comes with.” I shrug.

“You know what….I do not want to know. I do not want to know anything about anything anymore.” Thane shook his head back and forth
1 as we closed in on the border reception station in this section of highway.
The sedan went clean through the gate without stopping and is still moving. “What did the ID say?” Thane asks the young guard from his window. He is probably new on the job and rethinking his life choices.
“Alpha Clarke.” He answers Thane, trembling.
“Not possible. Clarke is too far away and wouldn’t do this, but somebody who knows we are close would.” Thane pulls away from the reception guard, and we continue following the GPS tracker in my fated mate’s ass.
I try to mind–link with Raven multiple times, but she never responds. The different scenarios surrounding her abduction fly around inside my head, but if I keep thinking about them, I will go feral with rage. “We’ll find her,” Thane says, and I nod as I stare at my phone screen
watching the dot.
“Who in this direction has problems with us? ” Damon asks from the back.
“Nobody except Mikhail, who is a day or more north of us, hiding somewhere,” Thane answers. “As much as I want to find him, I do not
want to do so unprepared p>
“I second that. I have no explosives.” I interject.
“Her rejected mate is from Pack Stevens? That is east of us.” Damon says, tossing around thoughts about who could be responsible for
this.
Doesn’t matter to me, they’re dead unless Fireball doesn’t save me any. I hope she skins them alive with her sharp claws as they cry and piss themselves.
“Could be them taking her to whatever facility they have that is running the experiments now,” I suggest. It is a possibility that they made her for a purpose and want her back.
“Also, we are very unprepared for that,” Thane responds. “I’m surprised Stevens would make this move, knowing we are watching him p>
“Maybe he is that stupid,” Damon says, hopeful.
“He is not,” Thane answers. “I will not make the mistake of underestimating him p>
The dot stops moving as we are driving, and I zoom in on the map. “They stopped at a shitty motel on a strip of neutral territory. If they touch her, I will shove their fists up their asses and leave it there for days before killing them.” I snarl. My wolf is seconds away from shifting, but if he bolts, it could take us longer to find her.
“Do you know who your mate is? She bit some dicks, remember?” Damon smacks me on the shoulder, and I appreciate the reassurance.
