Chapter 25
ANYA
“You are not pregnant, Mistress!” The midwife’s voice pierced into my ears and I snapped, my smile fading away as I opened my eyes almost immediately to confront her.
“Then check it again!” I barked, causing her to flinch before lying my back down on the smooth surface. I haven’t taken those herbs for three whole weeks so how can I not be pregnant?
I am definitely pregnant and she has to confirm it otherwise, she will not like the other side of me.
I felt her hands on both sides of my abdomen, pressing lightly and applying a little pressure around the other corner of my stomach like she had done earlier.
Her hands trailed down to my pelvic floor as she examined me further before taking a step back.
“Well?” I urged, darting my eyes at her in dire urgency. “Am I pregnant or not p>
“I have checked again, Mistress and I can confirm that you are indeed not pregnant.” She repeated for the second time, her eyes afraid to meet mine. “You are not carrying the Lycan king’s child. His baby is not growing inside your womb p>
I sprung out of the bed and slapped her hard on the cheeks. Another one of my dreams crushed and broken down to pieces. If I cannot carry Kyrell’s child then what is my purpose?
How can I make him love him? How can I make him worship me and become his Luna? Why is everything falling apart? Why can’t I get what I want for once in my life?
“I am sorry, mistress.” She cried out in pain but it only angered me more.
Picking up my gown from the rack, I wore it hastily before proceeding to wear the black cloak that covered my face so that I wouldn’t be recognized by anyone.
“Make sure that no one finds out that I came here today otherwise, it’ll be your funeral.” I warned sternly before storming out of her tent.
I traveled back home from the pack village to the palace, taking the hidden path that led into the walls of the palace. There, I went unnoticed, upstairs to my bed chambers and shut the door behind me.
If Kyrell or anyone finds out that I’ve been visiting the midwife for tonics and oral examinations then it’ll be over for me and my position in the palace.
The last thing I wanted to do right now was lose Kyrell. I can’t bear for that to happen.
Inside my chambers, I discarded my dress and hid the cloak away before crawling under the sheets. The thought of what had happened at the midwife’s tent remained fresh in my memory that I couldn’t bring myself to rest or sleep a wink.
Just as I tried to get some shut eye, to forget my unfortunate evening that has been ruined, I heard a sound knock on my door, interrupting my peace and quiet.
Rolling out of the bed, I made my way towards the door and twisted it open only to find Moira, standing there with a glass of herbal mix. I know that the sly woman has come to give me those disgusting herbs because I had refused to take them after leaving Kyrell’s chambers last night.
I have been ignoring her on purpose all day so why wouldn’t she get the message? Why wouldn’t she leave me alone? She is the reason why my mission hasn’t been successful to say the very least.
“Good evening, Moira.” I grumbled out a nonchalant greeting. This woman was the last person I had expected to see this evening and to think that she has come to me for the wrong reasons as well.
Without a single response, she stretched out her hands that held the glass towards me, “Your herbal mix, Anya. You had refused to take them last night and all through this morning p>
“And that’s because I don’t need them. I don’t want to take them.” I grunted through gritted teeth. This woman was slowly beginning to get on my last nerves. If it wasn’t for Kyrell then I would’ve put her in her place a long time ago.
“The Lycan King has asked you to take them or has he not?” She asked, “Why do you choose to disobey and defy his orders everytime p>
I scoffed, “I never chose to do anything Moira. I respect Kyrell as if my life depends on it because it does. He means the entire world to me.” I spat angrily.
“Then do him a favor and take your herbal mix. We can’t keep stressing over this issue all the time Anya, it’s starting to get old.” Moira lets out an exasperated sigh.
I could tell that she was probably too tired from going back and forth on this matter but I’ll be damned before I give in to her or Kyrell.
This is the only way to make Kyrell mine. This is the only way to trap him and secure my place in his life. I have been hearing rumours and speculations about him taking another wife soon so I need to cement my relationship with him and stake my claim as his woman as soon as possible.
I don’t understand what part of that problem Moira couldn’t understand.
“I do not want this herbal mix.” I repeated “Last night, he I trailed off with a pause and glanced at the her briefly, “He didn’t release his seed inside me p>
“I do not care if he did or not. This is simply an instruction and you have to follow it.” Her hands were still stretched out as the steaming vapor escaped steadily from the glass.
“And if I refuse?” I challenged “You act as if you’re Kyrell’s mother when you’re just a glorified maid like everyone else. What right do you have to force me to drink this herbal mix when I have bluntly refused not to?” I yelled at her as she remained rooted on the spot, completely unmoved.
“I am Kyrell’s Mistress.” I reminded her in case she had forgotten, eyes glaring at her in disdain.
“He is my master and so, I answer only to him because I serve him. You don’t have any right to force me Moira. I am not like those silly Omegas who come running like slaves when you call on them so you better start treating me with the respect that I deserve, do you understand?” I warned, pointing a finger at her.
Angered her continuous pestering, I made to leave but was held back by her.
“I may not be Kyrell’s mother but I raised him as my very own. I have been in his life way longer than anyone present in this pack. Yes, I might also be a slave but I am just as important as you are.” She stated calmly which only angered me more.
“And speaking of being the Lycan King’s woman, you are nothing but still a sex slave to him. His Luna is the only person that deserves my respect. That is, if he should have one in the future and not you.” she added.
I felt insulted and furious at her outburst but she didn’t seem to care.
“Since you’re so important to him, I’d like to see you try to stop me again.” I made to shut the door for the second time and just as she tried to stop me, I took the glass from her grasp and spewed the hot liquid on her clothes causing her to yelp and cry out in pain.
A smile tugged at my lips when I saw the damage that I had done.
“Do you still want to lecture me and tell me how important you are to Kyrell?” I gave a devilish smile as I looked at the woman that I had just vandalized.
“What did you just do, Anya?” A deep voice growled just from the corner and I darted my eyes towards the direction to see Kyrell staring at me. His eyes had taken a blue shade of color which represents his wolf and his jaw ticked in irritation.
I gulped fearfully when I realized that he had just witnessed everything that happened here.
“M-My Lord, I The rest of the words caught up in my throat when he lunged forward and in a split second, he was standing in front of me before his hands connected with my face.
I yelped when I tasted blood on my tongue. My eyes danced in fright and I trembled visibly. I had just angered him and I know that he will punish me for it. The realization came with fear of the unknown.
“How. Dare. YOU!” He slapped me again till I came crashing to the ground and gathered myself into an emotional pile. I struggled to get back on my feet but my knees suddenly went numb from the effect.
“F-Forgive me, My Lord!” I whimpered, my lips quivering in fear as tears burned my vision. “It…it was an accident. I didn’t…I didn’t mean to I stuttered, unable to finish my sentence as tears trickled down my cheeks.
“Moira Kyrell turned to the older woman who bowed her head curtly, in respect.
“Yes, My Lord.” She answered.
“Make another herbal tonic and bring it to my bed chambers immediately.” He instructed and she quickly scampered away, leaving us alone.
“And you Anya,” He stared down at me, his wolf eyes darkening in rage. “In my chambers, right now!” He ordered before hurrying away while I struggled to find my footing. Today is going to end horribly for me and just the thought of it sent shivers down my spine.
