Chapter 132
Exactly three days after Elsa tried to kill me, I had finally recovered enough to get my wolf functioning normally again.
The little guy had managed to get rid of the poisoning from the wolfsbane and the silver dagger and was in turn, healing my body naturally from any residues left.
During the span of these three days, one person never left my side, administering care and spending quality time with me.
Phoebe.
She was patient and our bond seemed to grow stronger during this period.
Apart from that, I realized that my mother and her seemed to be getting along. It was a weird sight to behold but I guess it was only the right thing for my mother to do after Elsa almost killed me and Phoebe saved me.
Anyway, on the third day after the incident, I sat on my bed, waiting patiently for an upcoming meeting I would be having with the members of my Alpha council.
I couldn’t exert myself with too much pressure yet but I was strong enough to talk normally and even walk.
“Are you sure you’ll be able to handle the stress?” Phoebe suddenly asked as I paced around the suite, awaiting my council.
It was already eight in the morning but I hadn’t even had breakfast, managing only to take a bath.
I turned my gaze to Phoebe who sat on a couch in my suite, wearing a simple blue day dress and having her hair tied into a curly ponytail that flowed down her chest.
I smiled, walking up to her and cupping her cheeks with both my hands before I spoke. “I’m fine, Mi Esposa Caliente. Don’t worry your p>
“If you tell me to ’not worry my pretty little head’, I’ll bite your fingers off.” She stated plainly, staring me straight in the eye with a blank expression.
We stared at each other in that awkward silence until she broke it herself, her face reddening with a blush as she looked away and giggled.
A smirk curled up my lips as I lowered my head, drawing her into a passionate kiss.
It’s been so long since we had sex.
It was an almost impossible task during my days of recovery, but I was feeling extra strong today, and my wolf kept howling inside me, urging me to have my mate in every way possible.
Just when our kiss deepened and my hands wrapped around her body, a knock sounded on the door, forcing me to pull away and arrange my clothes with an awkward look on my face.
Phoebe quickly arranged her hair, coughing awkwardly while going back to reading a book.
“Come in!” I barked, trying and probably failing not to sound flustered.
The door swung open, and the first person to step in was Beta Negan, who had a plain expression on his face.
However, his eyes went from me to Phoebe for a few seconds and he instantly noticed the awkward air.
But he didn’t say anything, a smirk curling his lips instead as he gave way for the other members of the Council.
“I’m glad to see you’re looking better, Alpha Kaene.” Gamma Thane said with a smile on his face after they’d all walked in.
But I remained as formal as possible, only nodding my head curtly at all of them before we sat on the free couches close to Phoebe.
She raised her head from the book in her hands and was about to excuse herself but I stopped her with a hand gesture.
“Everyone present is an important member of the pack’s higher-ups and should listen to the few things I’m about to say,” I remarked, scanning my gaze around everyone present.
Elder Gita technically should be here as well, but this was an issue relating to the Council in particular.
“As you all know, Elsa Thatcher attempted to kill me three days ago and almost succeeded too if it weren’t for the intervention of our brave Luna, Phoebe.” I glanced at her, a warm smile lighting up my face.
She smiled in return but still tried to avoid eye contact.
Why was she acting like we were teenagers?
I guess I’ll have to address her sudden shyness later.
Anyway, I cleared my throat and continued. “Elsa wasn’t working alone. Apparently, she was working with her father, Mr. Thatcher, and one of our own p>
I paused, letting my words sink in.
Everyone knew who I was referring to but I still stated it plainly. “The Delta wanted me dead and also tried to kill my Luna. However, it seems he killed my assistant, Lyra, and also killed himself when he realized that his plan wasn’t working p>
The members of my council glanced at each other but remained silent.
On the same night that Elsa had tried to kill me, news got out that the Delta and my traitorous assistant were both found dead in the event hall where Phoebe and I were supposed to have dinner.
Of course, the news was covered up and the gory scene was cleaned up. Only the higher-ups knew about it.
But apart from that, something else happened that I found rather unsettling.
“Has there been any trace of Elsa and her father?” I queried, fixing my gaze on the Gamma.
However, he shook his head with a somber expression. “I don’t know how, but it’s almost as if they disappeared, Alpha. We apprehended the staff in the manor they were last spotted in but none of them were even aware of how they escaped.” He explained.
The whole thing was just too fishy.
An investigation was carried out in the Thatcher family manor, but the only lead they were able to get were traces of blood in one of the rooms.
Blood from Elsa and her father.
Whether they were still alive was still a mystery at this point.
Suddenly, the Lycan raised his hand and I pointed at him, curious to hear what he had to say.
“Honestly, Alpha, I feel like there’s another threat out there.” He revealed, stroking his greasy brown beard. “Someone who’s probably responsible for the mysterious disappearance of Elsa Thatcher and her father p>
