The two maids froze with fear on their faces, not even daring to turn their gazes around to see the source of the voice.

He made a turn in the hallway, walking toward us with a scowl on his face.
“Look at me.” He said coldly when he got to us, his gaze fixed sternly on the backs of the maids.
Their bodies shivered with fear but they didn’t dare turn to look at him. It was so amusing, considering how they’d been ready to exchange words with me a few seconds ago.

The two maids jumped, quickly turning to face Kaene and falling to their knees, already breaking down in sobs.

The tension in the hallway became palpable, my eyes going to other parts of the place.
Some maids who were walking in our direction turned back immediately when they saw the scene, not wanting to face Kaene’s wrath.
But I just stood calmly, feeling safe and secure with him here.

I paused, bringing my gaze to him and squinting my eyes.
Before I could register what he just said, the maids crawled to my feet, one of them even holding onto my shoes while they sobbed.
“Have mercy. We… We have families. We can’t go to the dungeons and have them worrying about us.” The one who held my shoes pleaded with a cracked voice, bringing her gaze to my face.
I tilted my head, staring at the two of them with a blank expression.
Meanwhile, when I glanced at Kaene, I met him staring straight at me with a smirk on his face.
It was as if he was stepping aside and letting me get back some control in the presence of these erring maids.
I loved it and couldn’t help but smirk as well as I fixed my gaze on the maids. “Using your families to try and emotionally blackmail me into not punishing you is futile,” I uttered simply.
The maids raised their heads, staring at me with parted lips and shock in their eyes.
They were obviously lost on what to say now and seemed to have lost hope.

I watched the faces of the maids morph from despondency to happiness to despondency again.
They glanced at each other before turning their gazes back to me.

He drew me into a kiss, his warm lips meeting mine in a steamy passion that left me breathless.
I lost control a bit, wrapping my arms around his neck and standing on my tippy toes, wanting to take in every inch of him.
