Chapter 141

Negan

After killing Elsa and her father, Rowland and I got rid of the bodies.

We made sure to leave no trace that night before heading back to the pack, not expecting the shocking news that awaited us.

Kaene survived.

The bastard somehow managed to survive being stabbed by a silver dagger and being poisoned by wolfsbane.

Worse of all was the bullshit I kept hearing from Phoebe during the three days that he was bedridden.

“The mate bond healed him p>

What could that even mean?

Next, was the stupid meeting Kaene called between himself and the rest of us Alpha council members.

Apparently, they were cooking up a plan to fish out the other ’threat’ within the pack. AKA, me.

Hmph… tough luck.

I thought about all this on the evening of the third day since Elsa’s failed attempt at killing the Alpha, standing on the balcony of my private residence while staring at the night sky.

I held the railings, my grip tightening when I realized that all my planning, all the pawns I’ve been moving to lead up to a dramatic way of the Alpha dying— were for nothing.

“You think you’re so smart, huh?” I couldn’t help but point at the heavens, hoping the moon goddess could hear me.

All my life, I’ve been disconnected from her. My wolf was the only slight connection I had with this cunning divine being who watched over the pure-blood werewolves.

I held the glass of whiskey in my right hand while glaring at the sky. “Placing such a special bond between your precious Alpha and his Luna. You must feel so proud of them for coming out of this alive, right?” I questioned but was met with silence once again.

My eyes twitched with anger as I flung the glass of whiskey into the air, cursing silently at the waste of a perfect drink.

However, my lips curled up into a grin soon after and I began chuckling erratically, placing both my hands on my stomach.

My laughter echoed into the night and people around the estate would probably hear me.

But I didn’t care.

“One way or the other, this pack and all the others in the world will fall. This isn’t over just yet, you entitled bitch!” I sniggered, stepping away from the railing of the balcony.

However, when I swerved my body to look behind me, I spotted Rowland standing there with an oddly calm expression on his face.

We both stared silently at each other, our eyes sending whatever things we weren’t able to share with our mouths.

I saw a hint of something in Rowland’s eyes. Astonishment, probably at my sudden descent into ’insanity p>

But also… Disappointment.

“What is it, Rowland? Don’t you see I’m trying to think?” I asked with a grunt, looking away from him before proceeding to walk past him, my shoulders brushing against his.

I walked into my room, using my hand to brush through my hair.

I needed another drink.

“This isn’t you, sir,” Rowland stated with a hesitant tone, his voice echoing like an annoying pest from behind me.

I tried my best to ignore him, opening the door that led out of the room before heading out, hoping to get to the bar downstairs.

To my frustration, Rowland followed behind me still, his footsteps almost silent in the dimly lit hallway.

“The Delta and the Thatcher family’s plans to kill the Alpha failed. But that just means we have to step in and do the job ourselves.” He remarked, probably not realizing how absurd that sounded.

Kaene was the ’final boss’ in my book. An Alpha isn’t someone to mess with, especially not an Alpha like him.

Besides, there was one other factor to be considered.

“If we manage to kill him ourselves and leave the pack without a leader— cause we both know very well that I wouldn’t want to take up that mantle, then what?” I paused in my tracks, turning my gaze to Rowland. “The pack will be left without a leader and fall into anarchy, yes. Or, they could rise out stronger and move on p>

Werewolves were like overgrown pests not to mention the fact that they were higher than us hybrids in number.

Hybrids like myself who were powerful in using both their witch and werewolf side were rare. That’s why the brotherhood treasured me so much.

“Besides, it’s more fun this way. We wouldn’t have to lift a finger and manipulate the strings to get one of their own to kill the Alpha.” I remarked with a shrug, a smirk curling up my lips.

However, Rowland didn’t seem convinced by what I said and shook his head. “Forgive me, but that was a whole lot of mental gymnastics. You’ve been pulling strings and it has all led to this. The Alpha is still alive and it’s all thanks to that p>

Before he could finish his statement, I tilted my head, causing him to pause, his eyes flickering with hesitation.

I knew what he was about to say but still urged him. “Come on, Rowland, go on p>

He shook his head, his expression becoming stoic. That was something almost unseen.

Rowland was never one to mask his emotions around me.

“She’s clouded your mind without you even realizing it.” He muttered, his voice seemingly dripping with pity.

Pity for… Me?

Without another word, Rowland stepped backward before turning away from me and walking to the other side of the hallway.

“Where are you going?” I was forced to ask, dimming my eyes as I watched his receding figure.

He glanced back at me with an unreadable expression before he blurted. “Nowhere in particular, sir. I just hope you know what you’re doing p>

Before I could say anything else, he blitzed into the darkness with his vamp speed, leaving me alone in the dark hallway.

My hands balled into fists as I thought about all he said.

He wouldn’t get it. None of them will ever get it.

There was no fun in just being able to accomplish a mission like this with brute force alone. My plan wasn’t just to destroy Kaene.

I wanted the entire pack on its knees by the time I was done.

Just then, I remembered Phoebe and felt the urge to go see her despite everything Rowland said.

Her annoyingly sweet face and full lips might just be the calming medicine I needed right now.
