Chapter 215

Kaene.

~ ~ ~

I felt my grip loosen as I heard Phoebe’s mom. It was not an intentional act, but out of utter shock. Phoebe was a hybrid.

A vampire-werewolf hybrid.

I stared at her as she broke down in tears, in denial.

This truth was dangerous, more dangerous than anything we’d faced before. If word spread, the pack would never accept her.

They would fear her and fear made people do terrible things. They wouldn’t hesitate to see her as a threat and try to get rid of her.

If the pack found out… No. I wouldn’t let that happen.

I didn’t care if she was a hybrid, a mermaid or even the devil himself. I loved her with all my heart, she’s my Luna.

I clenched my jaw. No one would ever know, no one needed to know. I would keep this secret, bury it deep in me, even if it meant going against every rule and regulation that I knew as an Alpha.

I didn’t care.

I was so lost in thought that I didn’t pay attention to the scene unfolding before me. Phoebe was still in shock and her parents were trying hard to convince her.

I held her shaking hands, trying to calm her but she paid no attention. And suddenly, she fainted.

The office fell into chaos, her mom screaming her name. I grabbed Phoebe as she fell backwards.

I knew the pressure of the recent situation and the truth she just heard about herself made her faint so I wasn’t worried. She just needed some rest.

I was surprised that I didn’t take the news to heart, it didn’t affect me in anyway. I guess that’s what love does to a person.

I lifted her into my arms, carrying her out of my office and to my suite. Her weight felt lighter than it should, fragile in a way that made me nervous but I convinced myself that she was fine.

I laid her down on the bed, brushing away loose strands of hair from her face and tucking her in bed properly.

Her mom sat by her side, tears falling down her cheeks. Her dad stood beside her mom, placing his hand on her shoulder, his face etched with guilt.

“I’ll send maids to look after her.” I muttered. They nodded and I stepped out of the room, searching for some maids that were at least capable enough.

As I walked down the hall, my mind was filled various thoughts. The upcoming meeting with the pack, the war ahead and Phoebe lying unconscious.

“Alpha, may I have a word?” A voice that was all too familiar rang out. Elder Gita. I didn’t notice her standing in the hallway until she spoke.

“Let’s go to my office.” I said without looking back as I walked past her. Seeing her frequently these days was becoming annoying. She and her half cooked news everytime.

Honestly, I was tired.

We got to my office and she spoke first. “The moon goddess has spoken.” She said, her voice didn’t carry the usual calmness that I knew. She sounded different and I couldn’t place my hand on it.

Her face was sober too, hinting at something. Is it fear or pity?

I drew in a sharp breath, forcing myself to listen to the bad news I already know she brought. “What is it?” I asked, irritated.

“The vampires know.” She breathed out.

My entire body went rigid. “Know what?” My irritation replaced with fear.

“They know about Phoebe, they have been searching for her for years. She is the last of the ancestral bloodline in their settlement.

A chill ran down my spine. “That’s impossible. How do they know?” My voice cracking.

Elder Gita shook her head. “That I do not know, but the moon goddess showed me that there was trouble in their settlement and the only solution is to sacrifice an ancestral bloodline p>

Sacrifice who? My Phoebe? They dared not! I would fight till my last breath!

“They’re almost here, coming for her and there’s nothing we can do to stop them.” Her voice rang out once more as if she hadn’t said enough in the first place.

I disagree. I would stop them, I would get rid of every single person that tried to touch her.

I took a step back, my fists clenched so tight my nails dug into my palms, but I hardly felt the pain. “No one would dare touch her! Not even a scratch!” I snapped, feeling blood pump faster in my veins.

“The moon goddess said only Phoebe can win this war, whether there would be victory or not depends on her not your brute strength.” She said, clasping her hands behind her back.

Did she just insult me? I felt my temper spark, I was boiling with rage. I was done being the calm Alpha, I was done being told what to do by a goddess. I would prove her and everyone wrong.

I am the Alpha and this was my pack!

I let out a bitter laugh. “Then we’re doomed, because the one person who can win this war is unconscious.” I ran my hand through my hair in frustration.

Elder Gita remained unfazed. “I can delay them for a while, but I can’t stop them. You need to find a way to wake her up p>

“I don’t need your help delaying them. Let them come, I’ll fight them.” I roared, pointing at her.

Her lips pressed into a thin line, but as she

Opened her mouth to speak, a familiar voice interrupted.

“Alpha, the pack has gathered.” Lycan Davos announced, bowing.

“Good.” I replied, looking at him. Without another word, I stormed toward the hall leaving Elder Gita with her thoughts.

The moment I entered the hall, murmurs began.

“Is this about the body they found?” I heard a man say.

“Do you think the pack is still safe?” Another said.

“I told you the curse was real.” I snapped my head in the direction of the voice and I recognized him. It was the man who was Speaking to his friend the night I went to the pack lands.

I narrowed my eyes at him and he quickly shrunk back in fear, shutting his mouth.

I reached the platform, stepping on it and scanning the hall.

I could smell fear and anxiety thick in the air. Mothers held their children tightly. Warriors stood tense, waiting.

My people, my pack. Hundreds of people, looking at me for answers, for assurance, for hope.

“Our enemies are coming.” My voice was loud and clear, silencing the murmurs and small talks.

“They want to destroy everything we hold dear, but they will fail.” I let my eyes sweep over the crowd, letting the weight of my words settle in.

A few gasps and more whispers started when I paused.

I continued. “They are coming sooner than I expected. Lock your doors, stay inside. Don’t try to be a hero. Let the warriors do their job p>

I refrained from telling them we were up against vampires, that would create fear and chaos.

A few women began to cry. Some clutched their mates, holding them as if they might disappear.

Good. They needed to understand the reality of this and they needed to listen to me.

“As your Alpha, I promise you, this will not be our end. We shall emerge victorious.” I said, my voice ringing through the hall.

The hall erupted in cheers and approving nods. Fear didn’t disappear, but something else settled in its place. Hope.

I turned to Lycan Davos. “Prepare the warriors. This fight is ours to win p>

The pack dispersed, some still whispering, some holding onto their loved ones. But no one questioned me.

They trusted me. The rich and the poor.

And I wouldn’t let them down.

Just as I turned to leave, Elder Gita appeared again, reaching the platform within the blink of an eye. This time, her face drained of all color.

“They’re here.” She whispered.
