Chapter 26

Phoebe

Humiliated. Embarrassed. Angry.

Oh, gosh, I was so fucking angry right now!

Not only had Kaene’s mother humiliated me during breakfast, but then Elsa also showed her ugly face, throwing herself all over Kaene like a dog to meat.

It was nauseating, and I had no choice but to excuse myself from the dining table when Elsa mentioned how she wanted to move into Kaene’s suite.

“They could both fuck themselves in hell for all I care.” That was what I told myself when I left the dining room and climbed the stairs without turning back.

However… Who would’ve thought Kaene would still chase after me and then we’d end up having the roughest and yet the hottest sex of my life?

Damn, the man was good in bed, I’d give him that.

But when we both reached orgasm, he left me on the bed of my suite, naked and alone.

“Ugh, he’s such a jerk!” I grumbled, clutching a pillow and throwing it at my door when I remembered his last words before he left for work.

“What? Did you expect we’d cuddle right after? Or maybe a goodbye kiss p>

No, I expected I’d tie him to the bedpost next and stick a knife up his arrogant ass!

Scoffing, I was about to get up when I heard a knock on my door, forcing me to subconsciously use my arms to cover my breasts.

Ugh, what now p>

“Who’s there?!” I screamed as loud as possible, frustration biting at my skin like ants.

As expected, Miranda’s voice sounded from the other end. “Ma’am? Are you okay? The Alpha told me to come check on you p>

What the heck?

My heart fluttered at the thought. Had Kaene cared about me enough to send the maid over?

My face flushed at the thought but then I shook my head, slapping my forehead.

“Open your eyes, Phoebe! The Alpha is nothing more than an arrogant prick who blatantly admitted that he’s incapable of basic expressions of intimacy.” I chastised myself, gritting my teeth.

This wasn’t some cheesy romance movie.

It was clear as day that Kaene hated me and was probably only with me because of the consequences involved with the Alpha rejecting his mate.

“Uh… Ma’am? Are you there?” Miranda knocked again, snapping me out of my thoughts.

Clicking my tongue with frustration, I quickly tried arranging the bed and then proceeded to pick up my clothes and the pillow I threw.

I couldn’t let Miranda see the suite like this. Heck, I couldn’t let her smell it like this.

She was also a werewolf and one who loved gossip. I expected she’d be yapping about this to Brittany or anyone who cared to listen when she got the chance.

“I’m… I’m about to have another bath, Miranda.” I stuttered, my eyes scanning around the suite after I threw my clothes into a washing machine at the corner.

I grabbed the air conditioning remote, increased its output, and then proceeded to spray the place with a can of air freshener I saw on top of my drawer.

Satisfied, I scurried toward the bathroom before hollering. “Alright, you can come in now p>

I heard the door open and Miranda walking in, her steps sounding like she was hesitant to enter… Probably too entranced in scrutinizing the suite and how oddly nice it smelled.

But I called for her. “I’m in the bathroom, Miranda p>

I didn’t mind if she saw me naked since I’d already dipped myself into the bathtub, which was filled with foamy water that smelled nice.

Finally, Miranda stepped into the bathroom, bowing slightly. “I can see you’re fine, Luna. Would you like me to do anything p>

I paused, glancing around the bathroom as if there’d actually be something that’d magically appear for her to do.

But I found none, causing me to turn my gaze back to her before shrugging. “Nope. I’ll be good, Miranda. I’m just super tired after that… Dramatic breakfast and want to blow off some steam somehow p>

She nodded, though she seemed unconvinced.

Eventually, she bowed slightly and turned, about to leave. But before I could sigh with relief, she turned her gaze back to me.

“Uh, ma’am?” She hesitated, fiddling with her fingers. “D– Don’t be angry with me for this question, but… I heard something about Miss Elsa Thatcher staying with us here at the mansion. Is that true p>

Oh… Right.

Kaene had sent her out of the dining room before Elsa came in.

Sighing to myself, I nodded. “Yup… You heard right.” I chuckled dryly at the end.

I didn’t feel comfortable sharing so much with Miranda. She’d rat my secrets out to the birds if she could.

Anyway, she nodded her understanding, bowing slightly. “Thank you, ma’am. Please be careful. It seems… She still has a liking for the Alpha despite you being his mate p>

I nodded my head, though my jaws were already clenching with irritation. Couldn’t this girl read the room?

For the moon’s sake, why was she trying so hard to be ’nice’ to me when she didn’t even bother talking to me during my time as a maid?

“Thank you, Miranda,” I responded plainly, still managing to retain a semblance of politeness.

She proceeded to exit the bathroom, walking into the suite before walking out and closing the door behind her.

However, before I could relax and focus on washing my body, I heard another knock on the door, causing me to groan dramatically.

“Who is it?!” I yelled out, sighing to myself.

I guess my plans for a relaxing bath were going out the window.

Grabbing a towel, I stepped out of the bathtub and dried myself with it.

I proceeded to tie it around my body, hoping the person outside was perhaps Kaene or my other maid, Brittany.

If it was either of them… I swear to the moon goddess I’d chase them out without hesitation.

When I finally got to the door, I drew in a deep breath before opening it.

However, my mouth fell to the floor when I saw who it was, my eyes fluttering in surprise.

Oh, no p>
