When my fist connected with Negan’s face, I felt nothing but pure satisfaction as he stumbled backward.
People sitting around us scurried away for safety as my wolf growled inside me, ready to come out and tear this traitorous Beta to shreds.
However, just when I was about to land another punch on the disoriented fool, Phoebe placed herself in front of me, blocking my path.
“K– Kaene, stop this!” She pleaded. “W– We kept this from you all these while because we were ashamed of ourselves. We didn’t want to hurt you, so we decided to pretend like it never happened. And we made sure it never happened again p>
I arched an eyebrow, listening to her chattering while occasionally glaring at Negan who cleaned off blood from his mouth.
The room became silent and everyone seemed to be listening to Phoebe’s confession as well.
“I don’t know what came over me that night, Kaene.” She continued. “I… I was hurt by your rejection and ended up drinking too much. And then I was in heat and Negan was the closest person to me and seemed p>
She trailed off when she saw the disgusted look on my face.
Any more of her bullshit story and I might just throw up.
“The point is, I fucked up badly,” Phoebe muttered. “We both fucked up. No amount of explanation is going to change that or erase what we’ve done. But I’m begging you p>
She dropped to her knees, causing some people to gasp.
But I wasn’t moved by the slightest even as she continued. I’m begging you to please forgive me, Kaene. The blame should be all on me for throwing myself at him like that. I don’t deserve to be your mate, but… But I’m willing to make things right if you’ll just give me another chance p>
I stared at her, my chest rising and falling in heavy breaths as I contemplated what to do.
No one in the room dared to speak now, making the moment more ’intimate’. They were being entertained at our expense.

But I couldn’t care less as I finally found the voice to speak to Phoebe again.
“Despite all the pressure from people around me to banish you, I kept you around.” I blurted, sniggering out of pity to myself. “Despite your almost intolerable anger issues, I kept you around and some might say… I began to fall in love p>
The gasps from the people in the room were becoming too much at this point.
I glared at all of them, forcing them to keep quiet before I continued. “Yes, Phoebe. You managed to make this stoic, arrogant Alpha fall in love for the first time in his life. I felt something for a woman other than wanting to fuck them p>
Phoebe lowered her head with shame. I don’t know why I was half expecting her to say ’I love you’ back, but I did, and it irked me to no end.
“Now I feel nothing but a deep hatred for you.” I spat, not mincing a single word. “That’s what I get for falling for a mere maid p>
She raised her head just then, her eyes seemingly glinting with rage at my words.
I resisted the urge to slap her just then.

“I’ve said enough. Good night, Phoebe Skywalker.” I finally muttered before walking away.
However, before I could retreat to my suite upstairs, I turned back one last time, staring at all the elites present.
“If news of what happened tonight reaches outside for any reason and it comes to my notice, I will personally imprison all your loved ones and make you spend the rest of your lives in the dungeons,” I uttered coldly, meaning every word I said. “Did I make myself clear p>
They all nodded, young and old, and even the richest and most influential among them, like members of my Alpha council and Mr. Thatcher himself.
Seeing this, I continued walking to the stairs and then made a turn and walked to my suite.
At my suite, I stood on the balcony and stared down, watching as several elites trooped out of the mansion.
The decorative lights outside were turned off as people drove off, but none of them dared to discuss the events that transpired tonight among themselves.
They knew better.
I’ve always been ruthless when it came to things like this.
I couldn’t let the entire pack find out that my Luna cheated on me.
It was unheard of and blasphemous and would do nothing but bring unwanted attention to me.
Not to mention if this reaches the ears of neighboring and rival packs, I’ll become the laughing stock among Alphas.
“I’ve been such a fool.” I scoffed, turning myself a glass of whiskey.
The same alcohol that Negan and Phoebe blamed their affair on.
I downed the entire glass in one gulp before pouring another glass for myself. “The signs have always been there, but I allowed myself to be blinded by rose-tinted glasses. Kaene Maverick, you’ve been such a fool!” I spat.
My wolf howled in pain from the betrayal but I hushed him, wanting to drown away our collective sorrows with the alcohol.
However, even when I drank the entire glass with one gulp, it didn’t seem to calm my spirit.
How could it?
Grunting with frustration, I flung the glass into the night, not caring if it landed on an unfortunate wolf’s head.
I proceeded with drinking the rest of the whiskey, but this time directly from the bottle.
All I wanted was for this whole thing to be a dream but alas, it was as real as it gets.
The feeling in my heart was synonymous with being stabbed in the chest and back simultaneously.
“And to think Phoebe made me feel like I was losing my mind when I questioned her relationship with the Beta.” I shook my head.
However, just when I emptied the bottle and was about to fling it away, a voice spoke up from behind me.
“Drink anymore and I fear you might explode from all the alcohol p>
