Chapter 80
Negan finally came back to his senses as he stepped away from me, turning his gaze to my door as the knocking came again.
I panicked, my eyes scanning the suite as if there was a secret door somewhere until I remembered how the Beta got in here in the first place.
“The window!” I placed my hand on his shoulder, urging him to move toward the one he’d entered my suite from.
To my surprise, however, he dashed toward it with a speed that seemed faster than your average werewolf before jumping down from it.
I blinked stupidly, but another knock on my door brought me back to reality.
“Ugh, for the love of the Moon! I’m coming.” I grumbled, heading to the door.
However, before I could reach it, the door burst open and former Luna Catherine stepped in with a frown on her face.
Shit.
“Who are you using that tone on?” She queried contemptuously, eyeing me in the same manner.
My mouth quivered as I tried explaining myself, but then she rolled her eyes, striding past me while her blue flowy gown blew elegantly behind her.
“Anyway, I couldn’t care less about that. You’ve always been mannerless.” She harrumphed. “I’m here to talk to you about p>
She trailed off, her nose picking up a scent that made her sniff into the air.
She glanced at me before fixing her gaze on the shawarma I kept aside, as well as the one Negan left behind.
“Well, well, well She sniggered. “I guess that’s why you didn’t bother coming for breakfast this morning p>
My face heated up with a blush but I also secretly had my fingers crossed behind me.
The scent of Negan’s cologne still lingered in the suite and I hoped as hell that she wouldn’t notice it.
Luckily, it seemed the gods were on my side for once as Catherine turned her gaze back to me. “Anyway, Elsa told me you attacked her simply because she was checking out this suite.” She went straight to the point.
THIS suite?
My eyes dimmed but I tried my best to remain respectful. “I didn’t ’attack’ her, ma’am. I only sprayed water on her and the workers she brought into MY suite because they refused to listen to my pleas to leave it. For the Moon’s sake, I was naked with only a towel!” I protested.
This was outrageous.
It was just the next day after the video clip of my affair with Negan was shown to the elites and Elsa was already making plans on how she would move into my space.
As much as I found the Alpha mansion suffocating, this suite had managed to be my sanctuary all this while.
Just then, Catherine chuckled with amusement, staring at me with disbelief. “YOUR suite? By the moon, you have some guts, dear p>
She walked closer to me, forcing me to take some steps back as I stared back at her warily.
“Do you think after everything you’ve done… After the disgrace you’ve brought to this family, you’d have any place in this mansion?” She queried with sarcasm in her voice.
I clenched my fists but didn’t bother answering her.
I was far too ashamed of myself to do that.
Seeing this, Catherine sniggered, folding her arms in front of her chest. “Hmph… I thought as much p>
After staring at me silently for a few seconds, she stepped back. “Anyway, I’m here to tell you that resistance is futile. My poor Kaene might be too heartbroken to make any decisions right now, but he’ll soon understand that letting you into our lives was a mistake, and then you’ll have no choice but to leave p>
Kaene p>
She turned her back to me, seemingly about to leave when I called her back.
“Wait!” My breathing increased as she turned her gaze back to me. “K– Kaene. How is he p>
That was insensitive for me to ask since I was the cause of whatever pain he was going through right now, but I had no choice.
“Well, if you must know, he’s crushed. I’ve never seen him like this.” To my surprise, Catherine gave me a clear response, her gaze seeming distant for a bit.
Was that regret I heard in her voice?
“Did… Did he go to work today?” I asked further, testing my luck.
But it seemed I was out of those as Catherine’s brows furrowed into a frown. “No, he couldn’t make it. And I’ll advise you to stay away from him, for your own good.” She sneered.
I lowered my head, too ashamed to look at her directly.
She was about to leave again when I remembered something I wanted to ask. “Can I visit my family, ma’am? Just for a day or two p>
“Girl, I don’t care if you visit the moon itself and decide to stay there forever.” She hissed. “At least you can go see the parents responsible for your poor upbringing now p>
Without another word, she turned away from me and left the suite with a bang, leaving me in silence and with my thoughts.
Her explanation of Kaene’s current condition was disheartening.
He never misses a day of work, except for a few times when he had important stuff to attend to as the Alpha.
Or, other times where he slept in so we could have some ’fun’ in bed.
I sighed, going back to my bed.
On the bright side, at least she allowed me to see my family.
“Well, technically she said she didn’t give a fuck.” I murmured to myself.
But before I go, I have to find a way to see Kaene.
His mother had clearly warned me to stay away from him but I couldn’t afford that.
My heart and my wolf were still hurt, even though I was the one who cheated.
It was safe to say that I could feel Kaene’s hurt thanks to our mate bond and it was overwhelming.
Most importantly, though, I couldn’t leave his side because of the lingering threat of Delta Asher.
I can’t let that bastard succeed with his plans!
“Moon goddess, please look out for Kaene.” I prayed silently, fearing the worst.
