Chapter 91

My eyes fluttered open as I tried adjusting to the stream of light hitting my face.

I seemed to be lying on a bed and my vision was blurry. But I could make out the voices of a few people.

“She’ll be fine p>

Brittany?

I sat up, and my vision finally focused as I scanned my gaze around the room.

It wasn’t my room but a room within the mansion.

My gaze landed on Brittany who stood beside me with a slight smile on her face.

“Thank the moon you’re awake.” She whispered, holding my shoulder tightly. “And just in time for dinner too p>

It was then that I remembered what happened.

Those maids… They attacked me.

I admit I acted rashly when I held one of them by the wrist, but they had no business shoving me around or insulting me to my face.

That’s when things escalated.

My eyes creased when I remembered that Brittany was also there but didn’t do anything to stop those girls or stop me.

Even if she didn’t want to involve herself physically, she could’ve still held me back with words.

As these thoughts ran through my mind in quick succession, I heard a cough at the foot of the bed and raised my head only to see Catherine standing there.

She wore a flowy green dress, just like the one I saw before I passed out, and had the usual stern look on her face.

Wait… Could she have been involved somehow?

“Good, you’re finally awake.” She muttered with an unenthusiastic voice. “Now, do you mind telling me why you involved yourself in a fight with maids p>

A fight?

That wasn’t a ’fight’, they literally knocked me out before I could cause any damage. Heck, I could press charges for assault if we were among humans.

Though, the story could be twisted in the favor of the maids as well.

Anyway, I cleared my throat and spoke up. “They were insulting me to my face, Catherine. I couldn’t just stand back and let them get away with it p>

But that only made her chuckle, disdain etched on her face as she walked closer to the foot of the bed, her high heels echoing around the room.

“So you decided to throw hands like them. Like a maid.” She remarked, playing around with her fingers. “Once again you’ve shown that you don’t belong with werewolf nobility. And all it took was a few whispers here and there to stage an altercation which I was certain you couldn’t resist p>

I blinked stupidly at her as realization dawned on me.

I knew it!

“So, you’re the one who sent those maids after me?” I asked as if that was the most outrageous thing this woman had ever done to me since I got here.

She merely smirked, shrugging innocently. “Like I said, a few whispers here and a few whispers there. They already know that your power is waning as Luna and it’s only a matter of time before you head back to the slums you crawled out from.” She muttered.

I gritted my teeth, clenching my fists.

The slight sting at the back of my head reminded me of how they knocked me out in the first place.

“What if they’d killed me?” I asked, not bothering to ask her why she did it.

Meanwhile, as this interaction persisted, Brittany just stood beside me seemingly trying to make herself seem invisible.

“If they did then they would’ve been doing Kaene and the rest of this pack a huge favor,” Catherine responded casually to my question. “Besides, if I really wanted you dead do you think I would send mere maids after you p>

Argh, this conversation was getting nowhere!

I decided to let it slide, not like I had any other choice anyway.

“Thank you for checking up on me then, Catherine.” I plastered a smile on my face, staring directly into her eyes.

The smirk on her face faltered for a bit but then she stepped back and walked elegantly toward the exit.

I sighed as soon as she stepped out, and the door closed behind her, proceeding to bury my face in my hands.

At this rate, there was no doubt that someone would have me killed in this mansion.

I needed to go to my parents’ place soon.

I needed to go home.

“Come on, Brittany. Help me to my suite.” I muttered, glad that she wasn’t against me, unlike the rest.

After freshening up and dressing up in a leopard print handless dress that reached my knees, I headed to the dining room with a heavy heart.

As I walked down the stairs leading into the dining room, I heard a few whispers that suggested that there was more than just Kaene and his mother present.

When I finally got downstairs and close to the dining table, I was so stunned by what I saw that I paused in my tracks.

Mr. Viktor Thatcher, Elsa’s father and one of the richest men in the country, sat at the extreme end of the table, a glass of an alcoholic drink and a lit cigarette in his right hand.

Catherine sat to his right, laughing as they discussed heaven knows what.

But that wasn’t the most shocking detail on the dining table.

At the other end of the table closest to the staircase was Kaene, whose back faced me.

Clinging close to him like a desperate leech was Elsa, who sat to his left and had a cheery smile on her face, giggling even though Kaene didn’t say anything.

Seeing this made my blood boil but I had to play it cool and pretend I couldn’t see anything.

I guess this is what I get for cheating.

Whatever way Kaene wanted to punish me, I’d accept it since I was guilty.

I coughed awkwardly and began walking toward the dining table, my eyes searching for a free seat as far away as possible from Kaene.

I couldn’t bear looking at him while eating.

However, just when I got to the dining table and was about to head to a free seat that looked perfect, my legs hit a hard object, causing me to trip and fall.
