Chapter 359
Odessa’s POV
“Isaiah. Governor Daniel.” My lips curled into a broad smile when the leaders of Mexico City walked toward me, slithering past the huge crowd of Elite witches and soldiers gathered.
I stood in the middle of the pack house compound, donned in a silver sleeved gown that blew into the wind.
The skies rumbled with thunder as storm clouds gathered, adding to the anxiety I already had. That plus the cacophony of soldiers murmuring solemnly outside the compound gates.
Maybe talking to these men in power would cheer me up.
“Luna Queen Odessa.” Isaiah bowed, placing his right hand on his chest with the sassiest smile he could give. “I never imagined we’d meet again so soon.”
Isaiah was the head witch enforcer of Mexico City, a man who nearly clashed with Kaelos back when we went there to uncover the truth on the captured wolves.
The young witch was dressed in a stylish black suit with several crystal chains attached, as well as a plain white inner shirt.
He had black eyeliner on and wore multiple rings on his fingers.
As for Governor Daniel—the human hunter—he was dressed in a simple purple suit with a small black cape strapped behind it.
“How then did you imagine our next meeting?” I tilted my head with a small smile. The rightful source is.net
Isaiah shrugged. “Probably in a setting outside a literal war. But don’t worry… I and the Black Eye Coven will always have your back.”
I parted my lips, about to say something grateful, when Governor Daniel cleared his throat. The governor patted Isaiah on his shoulder roughly.
“You mean we and Mexico City have your back.” The older man gave Isaiah a sarcastic smile before whipping his head to me. “Anything is better than the chaos Ryker is stirring around the continent. Besides, you and your husband went all out culling the evil in our city.”
I tried my best not to look awkward.
If only they knew that mission was the key Ryker needed to get into my mind and lead to my eventual breakdown at the Blood Moon festival.
Gods, I don’t even want to remember any of it right now.
“Thank you two so much for your support.” I nodded, clasping my hands in front of my body. “I’m sure—”
Before I could say something about how late Coven Head Luzia would be proud, a domineering voice thundered with almost absolute authority.
“Soldiers of Blood Oak! Soldiers of the North American packs!” Alpha king Thorian ascended a podium outside the gates of the compound, looking through the army gathered below.
Stretching farther than my eyes could see was an army large enough to make the pack tremble with their march.
They all took up the space in the elite district of the pack, forcing the nobles to hide in their manors and mansions away from the chaos.
Witches.” Thorian continued, although the word ’witch’ seemed a little sour from his mouth. “And elite soldiers of the Silverstone pack of Europe. We’re gathered here today united under one cause.”
He paused, probably for dramatic effect or to see if they were listening.
They sure as heck were.
Everyone was dead silent, the only sound audible being the rumbling thunder above and the wind whooshing through like the cries of the undead.
“That cause is to put an end to a parasite that threatens to infest not just North America—but the whole world.” Thorian boomed, his golden armour glistening. “We can not let him unleash whatever is within the Vein. So, as soon as the portals open, what do we do?”
I furrowed my brows when the soldiers yelled in unison like this was rehearsed:
“March!”
“When the portals open what do we do?!” Thorian repeated, raising his right fist into the air with a silver sword in his grasp.
“We march!”
I caught Isaiah rolling his eyes while Governor Daniel gave a wry sigh.
“I guess now I see why the Luminari elders and Alpha King Kaelos entrusted leadership of this army to him.” The older man muttered.
I couldn’t even say anything to that.
Thorian was an Alpha King with over a century of experience backing him after all.
Just then, two more figures ascended the makeshift stage, joining Thorian in front of the podium.
Their robes whipped into the air, floating around them like clouds.
The Luminari coven leaders.
Coven head Arachne hesitantly walked to Thorian’s side and whispered something into his ear.
After a few seconds, the Alpha King nodded and brought his focus back to the soldiers.
“A secret entrance to Ryker’s lair has been discovered.” Thorian roared victoriously while the coven elders raised their hands.
I shifted my gaze, watching with awe as two portals tens of meters high and glowing with white light from the edges appeared on the horizon of the sea of soldiers.
Everyone turned to face the portals, the roars of the soldiers increasing simultaneously.
“I guess this is it.” Isaiah sighed, glancing at me. “Wish us luck, m’lady.”
I shoved him lightly on his shoulder as he and Daniel ran toward the army outside the compound.
Soon enough, they all charged through the portals. Each soldier, each witch and werewolf that marched through those glowing gates felt like a reminder of how helpless I was in this war.
Eventually, when they all left and the portals closed, I let out a heavy breath.
’I guess it’s just the two of us.’ Sirena whispered in my mind while I stared into the elite district which now looked like a ghost town.
“Yeah,” I murmured, touching my wedding ring. “Just the two of us
As I turned around toward the mansion, racking my head on what to do instead of worrying about everyone, the thunder rumbled with more power.
The wind picked up speed all of a sudden, so powerful that I was forced to squint as I walked toward the mansion’s entrance.
However, just when I began walking up the stairs leading into the mansion, a powerful blast of lightning split through the air, flashing blue light on the earth.
I jolted slightly, a chill running down my spine.
“Good to see you again, Dessa.” A familiar voice said smoothly behind me just then.
D–Dessa?
There was only one person who ever shortened my name that way. One person who always said it with so much sass and friendliness.
But… But it can’t be…
Slowly, I looked over my shoulder, almost regretting it immediately after.
The earth seemed like it was spinning beneath my feet as I blinked at the man standing there with a mischievous grin and polished suit.
“M–Marcellus?”
