Chapter 39 Don’t Miss Your Chance

“If you’re leaving, then hurry up. Don’t hold us up from fighting the boss,” Marcus said.
But Derek’s brow furrowed deeply.
“No way. If we leave, they can call a vote with Joanna still in the party and kick her out p>
Dungeon parties worked like official teams. To actually kick someone, you needed unanimous agreement.
With Derek and the others present, Joanna couldn’t be kicked. Without them, she’d be an easy. target.
But just as he was about to insist on staying, Joanna stopped him.
“Go grab some gasoline and burn the spider silk. Get out of here first p>
Derek thought about it and nodded.
The group carefully made their way around, avoiding the spider silk on the ground, and headed to the gas station near the train station entrance to grab some fuel.
The spider silk was tough, but it had a weakness. It was flammable.
Pour gasoline on the tracks, burn away the webbing, then get back on the train and hit the ignition. The train would start moving again.
Once they traveled about six miles out, they’d exit the dungeon.
That was why Hard Mode dungeons were so dangerous. The entry point and exit weren’t the same. If something went wrong, getting out was nearly impossible.
Essential supplies for the spider dungeon included gasoline, lighters, torches, and other flammable materials.
Of course, you could find these inside the dungeon too, assuming nothing went sideways.
Grace and the others grabbed what they needed and returned to the train tracks to start burning the webs.
Victor grumbled unhappily, “Joanna’s gonna fight the boss anyway. What’s the point of making us leave? She’ll share XP with those guys but not us? Or is she worried we’ll steal the last hit and snag the gear? What a hypocrite, tough on the weak and soft on the strong p>

Derek frowned. Victor’s words reeked of biting the hand that fed you.
They hadn’t paid Joanna anything. Why should she let them freeload XP?
He instantly felt a distaste for Victor. Good thing they weren’t close. One went to Nexus High, the other to Curie High. They’d probably never cross paths again.
Derek sped up his work. Fortunately, there was only about 200 yards of spider silk. It burned away quickly, and they made it back to the train and hit the switch.
The train started moving.
They all stood by the windows, watching the station recede. In the distance, they could see the terrifying Spider Lady.

A horrifying shriek rang out. Damage numbers of -50 popped up above their heads. Even from this far away, they were taking damage. It was hard to imagine how brutal this boss was up close.

Victor said, his fists clenching involuntarily.
“Yeah. Trinity High isn’t the top school, but Genesis High and Twinspire High are full of trust fund kids and legacy players. For Joanna to be number one at Trinity High year after year, she’s definitely got skills. Though I never heard about her having a summoned beast before. Looks like she’s finally getting her moment p>

Victor didn’t want to hang around them either. He wandered off to another car, but watching Spider Lady’s massive silhouette disappear from view, the more he thought about it, the more bitter he felt.
He picked up his pace, sprinting to the car they had originally entered from. He looked up at the hole in the ceiling.
In an instant, he leaped up and out, leaving the train behind.

At the base of the skyscrapers, Joanna directed Nighthowl’s attacks while dodging Spider Lady’s strikes.
Spider Lady hung about 130 feet up in the air. Hitting her required extreme range. The alternative was to cut the silk threads and destroy the web, forcing her to fall. But that would put enormous pressure on the frontline fighters.
Of course, killing her while she remained suspended wasn’t easy either-Spider Lady’s web was littered with human corpses, and she could eat one at any time to regenerate her health.
But Nighthowl’s damage was devastating. The Celestial Gaze fired a beam of dark light, continuously shredding Spider Lady’s HP. In just three minutes, she was down to 1 p>
Marcus and his teammates stood there with their jaws on the floor.
Then, suddenly, the dark light stopped.

The next moment, silver light particles appeared around Joanna and Nighthowl. They vanished from the spot and reappeared inside the train, six miles away.
She had randomly appeared in one of the cars. As the train continued forward, it eventually entered a swirling vortex.
