The drive to the courthouse felt both too long and too short. I was buzzing with nervous energy, Tristan holding my hand tightly the
entire way, and every red light felt like a personal affront to our timeline.

When we finally pulled into the courthouse parking lot, my heart started racing even faster. This was it. This was really happening.

We found the right office, the County Clerk’s office where marriages were registered, and joined the short line of people waiting.
