Although Cynthia could barely hide her contempt for Caitlin, Victor, on the other hand, trusted Caitlin implicitly.
The moment Caitlin spoke, Victor nodded without hesitation. “Of course, Miss Kensington. I appreciate your help. I’ll count on you to come with me tomorrow p>
Cynthia could hardly believe what she was seeing.
Did Victor really just take that little upstart’s word at face value?
Did he even know what he was doing?
It was laughable.
Cynthia turned to Victor, unable to hold her tongue. “Mr. Winslow, even Professor Chatham refused to see me and I was one of his top graduates. If you go there with Miss Kensington, you’ll just be wasting your time. Besides, Felipa just texted to say she’s cleared her schedule for this afternoon. If you meet with her today, she’ll sign the contract with Apex immediately p>
She put extra emphasis on “Professor Chatham,” hoping to highlight her own connection—and, she secretly hoped, to remind Caitlin of her place. Compared to her, Caitlin was nothing.
Cynthia paused, then added, “Also, after today, Felipa is flying overseas for a shoot. If you miss this window, Mr. Winslow, you won’t find a better
spokesperson p>
Her words dripped with threat.
Felipa was the hottest celebrity of the season. She’d made a rare move by approaching Apex Game Studios herself Cynthia wasn’t about to let Apex get too complacent.
Victor didn’t answer her directly. Instead, he turned to Caitlin, waiting for her opinion.
He’d decided to let Caitlin call the shots.
Caitlin’s tone was calm as she replied, “If Felipa’s only available this afternoon, then I suppose we just aren’t meant to work together p>
Not meant to work together?
Who did this girl think she was?
How dare she make decisions for Victor?
Cynthia couldn’t even bring herself to respond to Caitlin, so she turned back to Victor. “Mr. Winslow, I really think this decision should be yours. How would you like me to reply to Felipa p>
Victor smiled. “Whatever Miss Kensington says, that’s my answer as well p>
Cynthia had already been simmering, but Victor’s meek attitude made her even angrier.
What had gotten into Victor? Ever since this girl showed up, it was as if he’d been replaced by someone else—he just nodded and agreed to whatever Caitlin said, no matter what.
No. She couldn’t let this continue.
Cynthia immediately looked to Wade Marshall.
Wade instantly caught his niece’s meaning. He, too, thought Victor was acting out of character. If he were in Victor’s shoes, he’d never let a young woman like Caitlin dictate company affairs. After all, he was a major shareholder himself-he wasn’t about to let Caitlin meddle in the internal workings of the company.
Just then, Victor spoke up. “Oh, VP Marshall, I nearly forgot-you’ve been wanting to meet Miss Kensington, haven’t you? Here she is p>
What?
So this was the legendary Miss Kensington?
No wonder Victor deferred to her so completely.
Wade’s expression shifted in an instant, his earlier skepticism replaced by respect.
Victor turned to Caitlin. “Miss Kensington, this is our VP, Marshall Wade p>
Caitlin smiled politely and extended her hand. “Pleased to meet you, VP Marshall. I’m Caitlin p>
Marshall seemed caught off guard for a moment, but quickly recovered. He reached out to shake her hand, but then paused, wiped his palm on his suit jacket, and only then shook her hand with a respectful, “It’s an honor, Miss Kensington. Please, just call me Marshall p>
Marshall?
Cynthia stared, dumbfounded.
Was her uncle serious? He actually wanted this girl to call him by his first name?
As he shook Caitlin’s hand, Marshall said earnestly, “Miss Kensington, I think you’re absolutely right. Felipa clearly doesn’t want to work with us; otherwise, she wouldn’t be making demands about meeting only this afternoon. Meeting with Professor Chatham should be our top priority p>
Cynthia was stunned.
She’d never seen her uncle look so obsequious. For a moment, she wondered if she was hallucinating. Was this really her uncle?
Before Cynthia could react, Marshall took her by the arm. “Miss Kensington, Mr. Winslow-take your time. Cynthia and I will leave you to your discussion p>
And with that, Cynthia was all but dragged out of the office.
Once outside, she yanked her arm free and glared at her uncle. “Uncle, do you even know what you’re doing? Who is that girl anyway? Why are you and Mr. Winslow listening to her like she’s royalty? You can’t seriously believe she’ll get Mr. Winslow a meeting with Professor Chatham tomorrow p>
“Of course I do. Miss Kensington can do anything,” Marshall replied, brimming with conviction.
Do anything? What on earth made Caitlin so special? Her age? Her bravado? Cynthia just rolled her eyes, utterly exasperated.
