Even Caitlin, who was a girl, couldn’t help but wince at that last blow Gordon had delivered.
“Miss Kensington,” Gordon cleared his throat, trying hard to suppress the heat rising inside him. “I got a bit carried away just now. The situation was… unusual, so I pretended to be your boyfriend p>
“It’s fine, really! I should be the one thanking you. I owe you dinner sometime p>
“Deal, Miss Kensington.” Gordon didn’t stand on ceremony. “Where are you headed? I’ll have my driver take you p>
Caitlin smiled. “We know each other well enough by now. Just call me by my name. Everyone else does-just Catie is fine p>
“Alright.” Gordon gave a slight nod. “Then you can call me by my name too p>
“Gordon?” Caitlin asked.
He nodded again. “Exactly p>
Up front, Glenn the driver nearly did a double-take.
First name basis? With him?
And the most incredible part-Master Ninth actually agreed, and didn’t look the least bit offended.
Forget Silverhaven!
There probably wasn’t a single soul in all of Eldermere who dared call Master Ninth by his first name.
Clearly, Miss Kensington’s place in his heart was… something special.
If Glenn hadn’t seen and heard it himself, he never would have believed it.

“Where are you headed, Catie?” Gordon picked up the conversation.
The way he said her name-Catie-held a subtle warmth, an intimacy that was both gentle and magnetic.
Caitlin blinked, caught off guard for a moment, then replied, “I’m meeting March at Ember Plaza to catch a movie p>
Gordon nodded, then spoke to the front, “Glenn, take us to Ember Plaza p>
“Yes, Master Ninth,” Glenn answered, almost reverently.
Caitlin glanced over at Gordon and asked, “What about you? Why did you suddenly show up outside my building p>
“My mom sent me,” Gordon replied.
“Your mom p>
He nodded again. “She had something for you. She forgot to give it last time, so she asked me to bring it over p>
“What is it?” Caitlin asked, curiosity lighting up her eyes.
“Some food, and a little gift p>
“That’s so sweet of her! I really don’t deserve it p>
“It’s nothing. She likes you a lot, and she’s grateful you helped me out before. So, Catie, don’t feel pressured.” Gordon paused for a moment. “Once I drop you off at Ember Plaza, I’ll have Glenn deliver everything to your place. Which apartment is yours p>
“Building Five, Apartment 101. My grandfather should be home p>
“Got it p>
The car sped through the city and soon pulled up in front of Ember Plaza.
Gordon got out and opened the door for Caitlin. “Catie, if you ever run into that pest again, just text or call me. Anytime p>
Both of them knew he was talking about Julian.
Caitlin gave a small nod. “Thank you. I will p>
“No problem p>
They said their goodbyes, and Gordon got back in the car. “Glenn, take me to the office first, then drop those things off at Miss Kensington’s place p>
“Yes, Master Ninth p>
A few minutes later, Gordon changed his mind. “Actually, never mind. I’ll take them over myself p>
His mother had told him to deliver them personally, after all.
