She spat the words at them, making a mental note: the very first thing she’d do after marrying Xavier would be to fire these two idiots.

Ever since Katrina had been thrown out, Xavier hadn’t been able to settle his mind. No matter what he did, he couldn’t concentrate. Every time he sat down, Katrina’s words echoed in his head:

Frustrated, Xavier dropped his pen onto the stack of approval forms, picked up his phone, and opened Katrina’s chat, thumb hovering over her name, ready to call.
Just as he was about to press the button-
Knock, knock, knock.
A knock sounded at the study door.
“Come in,” Xavier called, setting his phone aside.
The door swung open, and Caitlin walked in.
“Freya,” Xavier greeted, a genuine smile breaking through his stress.
“I made some chai,” Caitlin said, coming closer and cradling a mug in both hands. “You should try it, brother Xavier p>
He blinked in surprise. “Freya, you know how to make this p>
She grinned. “I learned because I love it. Thought you might like it too p>
Xavier took a sip, eyebrows lifting in pleasant surprise. “This is incredible p>
He’d assumed it would just be some bland milk with tea leaves, but Caitlin’s version was rich and expertly spiced.
She settled into the seat across from him, her gaze direct. “Brother Xavier, you and Katrina… you’re not just an ordinary couple, are you p>
Caitlin never liked to beat around the bush. If there was something on her mind, she’d ask straight out-better to clear the air than let misunderstandings fester.
Xavier hesitated, caught off guard. “Freya, what makes you say that p>
She was honest. “When Katrina was sent away today, her last words were… off. And it wasn’t just what she said. Your reaction was strange, too. The moment she shouted those words, you looked… guilty p>
She paused, then asked, “Brother Xavier, can I ask how you and Katrina met p>
He took a long drink of chai, set the mug down, and met her eyes. “Actually… Katrina and I went to college together. But, at first, we barely even spoke. Then, about a year ago, she saved my life in the Maldives p>
He sighed, memories flickering
across his face. “After that, when we met again and she admitted her feelings, agreed to date her. I mean, I was at the age for relationships anyway, and sooner or later, it was bound to happen. If I had to choose, I wanted someone with good heart. But finding someone like that can take forever-and I’m not the type to waste time p>
“So I chose Katrina. She’d saved me, never asked for anything in return, and always acted sweet and genuine. Because of her kindness and what she did for me, I trusted her completely p>
“She saved your life?” Caitlin repeated, sensing there was more to the story. “Can you tell me what happened p>
“Sure,” Xavier nodded, his voice
growing softer. “It was a year ago. I went snorkeling with some friends off the coast in the Maldives. Not far from shore, I suddenly cramped up, lost consciousness in the water. When I woke up, Katrina was there-she’d pulled me back. Without her, I wouldn’t be here p>
He paused, glancing at his hands. “I lost the little gold medallion Grandma gave each of us that day. My mom always said it protected me, but honestly, it wasn’t the medallion that saved me. It was Katrina p>
Now Xavier’s expression darkened; he looked truly torn.
On the one hand, Katrina’s character left much to be desired. On the other, she’d saved his life-something he could never forget.
He let out a heavy sigh and looked at Caitlin. “Freya, you know, after she saved me, she never once used it to demand anything. In fact, she told me it was nothing, and not to make a big deal out of it. So I find it hard to believe that someone so humble and selfless could possibly… could possibly p>
Another sigh.
But Caitlin had picked up on something else entirely. “Brother Xavier, let me ask you—when you woke up, Katrina was already there, right? Do you remember anything about how you were saved p>
Xavier shook his head. “I blacked out. All I remember is waking up to see her. Nothing else p>
Caitlin’s gaze grew thoughtful. “Isn’t it possible,” she said slowly, “that… just like in those old fairy tales, like ‘The Little Mermaid,’ the person who saved you wasn’t Katrina at all Maybe your real savior was
someone or something else, and
