Rosemary had grown accustomed to a life of luxury. The thought of prison was worse than death. And not just any prison—the Royal Police Department’s holding cells. They were filled with the most vicious criminals in the kingdom. Being sent there was worse than being sent to hell.
Diana stepped in front of Rosemary, shielding her daughter with her own body. She looked at Sanger, her tone resolute. “Chief Miller, the crimes you just listed were all my doing. My daughter, Rosemary, had nothing to do with it. If you’re going to arrest someone, arrest me alone p>
She declared, “My daughter is innocent p>
Sanger’s eyes narrowed. “According to the evidence and documents we’ve received, both you and your daughter are primary suspects. Confess and you may receive leniency. Resist, and you will be dealt with harshly. Trying to cover for her will only worsen your crimes p>
He gave a sharp command. “Men! Cuff them p>
At his order, two officers moved forward with handcuffs for Diana and Rosemary.
Diana shoved away the officer who approached her, shouting, “I want to see Mr. Audley p>
Mr. Audley was the head of the Royal Police. With his help, they might be able to protect Rosemary. Diana knew her own fate was sealed; all she could do now was try to save her daughter.
“Audley?” Hearing the name, Sanger let out a short, harsh laugh. “Madam, you must not have heard. Audley was dismissed from his post for accepting bribes and for offending Miss Gonzales. He’s currently enjoying the hospitality of the dark room p>
He continued, “And it’s not just Audley. The former Chief and Deputy Chief were also removed for dereliction of duty. If you want to see Audley, you can join him in his cell p>
“What?” Diana’s eyes widened in disbelief.
She finally processed Sanger’s earlier introduction: new Chief. She had assumed
it was just a routine change in leadership. She never imagined that the Chief and Deputy Chief had also been swept up in this affair.
Terrifying. This was absolutely
terrifying. Who in the world was Caitlin How had she become a
benefactor to the royal family? None of it made any sense.
“Take them away!” Sanger had no patience for their theatrics. At his command,
both Diana and Rosemary were restrained.
Rosemary began to sob and struggle. “Let me go! Let me go! I’m innocent! This has nothing to do with me p>
She shrieked, “Mom! Mom! Say something! Save me p>
Diana also fought against her captors. “I’ll take responsibility for my actions! I’ll confess to everything! Just let my daughter go p>
“Behave yourselves,” Sanger
growled, showing no sympathy. He strode over, grabbed a handful of Rosemary’s hair, and pulled out his pistol pressing the barrel to her temple if you don’t start cooperating, my finger might just slip p>
