Chapter 170: They found the evidence
Beatrice took a deep breath once she was left alone with all the visitors.
The smile slipped from her face in a second, and she pulled her phone before dialing her uncle’s number.
“Did the project come into our hands?” Beatrice asked.
There was silence on the other hand, and Beatrice couldn’t help but grit her teeth in annoyance.
The man just knows how to pressure her. When it comes to his own capabilities, he wasn’t so efficient, was he?
“Where are you? We should meet,” her uncle said.
Remembering how he offered her to that old, stinky man Cooper the last time she met him, Beatrice clenched her fists on the bedsheet.
“I can’t come. Elara nearly exposed me, or someone related to me, as involved in stealing the project. I had to take a fall from the stairs to distract everyone and shut her mouth. You’d better work on it quickly. I am literally trying everything,” Beatrice said before she ended the call and took a deep breath.
This won’t do. There was no one on her side that she could count on.
The only guy who used to wag his tail around her was now dead, murdered by her alone.
If she told her uncle anything about how she had to kill Sean, rather than helping her, he would only use it against her.
Beatrice ruffled her hair, frustrated, before an idea appeared in her mind.
Right. Why didn’t she think about it earlier? The only proof that Elara was confident was that message, no? What if she changes the receiver?
Beatrice smiled at the thought before she dialed another number.
“I’ll pay you five thousand dollars just for this simple work. Make sure no one sees you doing it, not a crew member, no one,” Beatrice said to the person she contacted before she ended the call and leaned back.
Now all she had to wait for was the good news.
The next day~~~
Elara reached the set, dreading everyone’s reaction to her presence.
People didn’t disappoint her. They looked at her warily, but for some reason, the reaction wasn’t as strong as she had depicted, which confused her even more.
As far as she knew, Beatrice and Carla wouldn’t leave such a lucky opportunity to drag her name and character through the mud.
She saw that the scene where Carla was supposed to push her down the stairs was cancelled and replaced with Carla pushing her into a fountain.
“What’s going on? Why did the location change?” Elara stopped a random crew member who looked at her with pursed lips before answering, nonetheless.
“Director Han thinks the stairs scene is not a good omen for our shooting. Both times we tried to shoot the scene, someone got injured. First you and then Miss Beatrice. It’s too risky. That’s why he updated the location,” the crew member said.
Elara nodded in understanding.
She walked to Producer Li to see what others thought about her, since she felt he was the only guy on the set she could really talk to.
“How are you holding up?” Producer Li asked.
Elara shrugged.
“I don’t know. I am not facing such a strong backlash as I had expected, honestly,” Elara shared her honest thoughts, and the man nodded.
“That’s because Beatrice admitted it was her mistake. She was standing near the staircase, trying to persuade you to give up the lead singer role to Carla. That was why you got angry. You did not mean to use that much force,” Producer Li said.
His words shocked Elara.
Things were definitely not so easy.
What was Beatrice really trying to do?
Wait. Beatrice didn’t think she would give up on investigating Sean’s murder and keep her mouth shut about what she found out, did she?
Elara thought she finally understood what was going on inside Beatrice’s head. The girl was probably trying to suck it up to her.
However, she had no idea how wrong she would be proven soon.
“You should be happy that things didn’t go as wrong as everyone anticipated,” Producer Li’s words snapped her out of her thoughts, and Elara smiled before walking aside.
At the same time, Carla, who returned to the shoot after Sophia persuaded Andrew to pull the strings, looked at Beatrice with a bit of annoyance.
“Seriously, you said you were on my side. But it doesn’t look like the case to me. This was the perfect opportunity for you to avenge the humiliation I went through, but you just gave her a clean chit to parade around freely,” Carla huffed loudly.
Beatrice, who had sat before the mirror to allow the makeup artist to do her work on her face, smiled softly.
“Some things are better not rushed, Carla. We have to be humble. This industry is all about building connections,” Beatrice corrected her words when she realized they weren’t alone inside the room.
Carla looked at the makeup artist, barely holding back the words that were on the tip of her tongue, before sighing.
She left the tent angrily and was about to go to the backside to have a little smoke when she saw some cops rushing inside the set.
“Hey, what’s going on?” The security guard rushed to talk to the cops, and the commotion caught everyone’s attention.
Director Han and Producer Li quickly walked to the cops.
“We are looking for Miss Elara,” one of the cops said, and the director and Producer Li looked at each other.
“Sir, if this is about what happened yesterday regarding Miss Beatrice’s accident, I think we have a misunderstanding here. It was purely an accident, and—” the director started, not wanting more trouble on his set than they had already faced.
“It’s about Sean Turner’s murder case,” the cops said.
Elara, who had gone inside the tent to get changed into her costume but stepped out when the crew member said someone was looking for her, looked at the cops with intrigue.
“Miss Elara, we have the warrant to search your belongings. We have gotten a tip that you possess something that can provide us with a great lead on Sean Turner’s murder case,” the cops said.
Elara scrunched her brows.
She possessed something that could——
Her gaze shifted to Beatrice standing at some distance, and her pupils dilated.
She finally understood Beatrice’s game, the intention behind not blaming her for the fall.
Elara clenched her fists. She knew she had fallen into the trap, all because she let her guard down.
Her confidence that she would handle everything was one big reason behind it. Beatrice had wanted her to drop her guard for the day, and that was precisely what she did, giving Beatrice a chance to plot her next move.
However, she hadn’t guessed Beatrice would find a way to turn the tables like this.
She should’ve known. She underestimated Beatrice, and that was her biggest mistake.
Elara watched the cops walking to the tent where her purse was while she was asked to stay out of it.
Her heartbeat quickened. For some reason, she already knew she wasn’t going to like the outcome of whatever was going to happen next.
And her intuition didn’t disappoint her.
“Miss Elara, we found the phone with the SIM card that Mr. Sean had used to contact you through a stolen phone in your bag. You need to come with us.” One of the cops raised the phone for her to see, and everyone started gossiping around her as she clenched her fists in annoyance.
She really couldn’t enjoy one normal day, could she?
