Chapter 37

Andrew shook his head in denial. The more he thought about it, the more absurd it sounded.

It was true that they saw Elara there that day, but she was probably there for something else.

Besides, why would a man like Noah, who always put business and profits before everything else, ever listen to Elara even if she was the one behind this?

She literally had nothing to offer to him.

Andrew wondered. Though he was reasoning with himself, his mind suddenly betrayed him, reminding him of the horse-riding incident and the war machine incident from the exhibition hall.

No. What was he thinking? Horse riding and having a singing talent were utterly different.

She even incurred such a life-threatening injury. Would Elara even have the time and energy to plot something like Carla and his mother was implying? It reminded him that he was never able to check up on her again.

“Believe me or not, Andrew. Don’t take that woman lightly. A good-for-nothing woman is still a woman, and there’s one thing every woman has to offer,” Sophia said.

The meaning behind her words wasn’t hard to understand, and it immediately infuriated Andrew.

“Mom! Think before you talk. She is your daughter-in-law.” Andrew raised his voice, and Sophia flinched at her son’s tone, making her hate Elara even more.

Her son, who never talked back to her, was now raising his voice at her because of that wretched woman.

“Fine. I won’t say anything. But will you really let outsiders bully your sister? You know how serious Carla was about singing. If your father had been here, he wouldn’t have let anyone bully the family,” Sophia said, wiping her fake tears.

Andrew massaged his forehead, pinching the bridge of his nose in slight frustration before exhaling sharply.

“I know, Mom. I am not saying I won’t do anything. Don’t bother Dad with such minuscule things. He has gone to an important meeting. At least let me get changed first,” Antonio said before he walked inside the house, not waiting for anyone’s reply.

Seeing the opportunity presented to her by the god’s grace, Beatrice didn’t waste a breath and walked to Sophia, taking her hand with a fake show of concern.

“Don’t worry, aunty. Everything will be fine. Have faith in your son. He will do something. In the meantime, my uncle also has some influence in the entertainment circle. I’ll ask if he can do something about it,” Beatrice said.

Her sweet words won over Sophia, and the lady smiled.

“Oh, Beatrice, how much I wish you were my daughter-in-law rather than that good-for-nothing. It’s okay. It won’t be long before our elder realizes she is worthless. I hope you can accept my son at that time,” Sophia said.

Beatrice nodded, barely concealing her excitement behind her elegance and poise.

At the same time, in the private suite of a seven-star hotel, a man dressed in khaki pants, with his shirt buttons undone, stood near the window, sweat dripping down his chest after an intense workout.

He lit a cigar and opened the window to gaze at the city, his eyes dark and unapproachable, hiding the evil stories of the sights he had seen throughout his life.

“Sir, it’s done,” a familiar voice echoed from the hall’s entrance, and the man gave the subordinate a sidelong glance.

“What about her?” He asked, not bothering to turn around to even look at the man.

“About who?” The man asked, confused.

If the subordinate didn’t catch his boss’s attention earlier, he definitely did now.

The man turned and looked at the subordinate.

“What did you say?” The man asked.

Alen, who had gone to bring some black coffee for his boss, widened his eyes when he saw the dark look in the man’s eyes and shielded the subordinate.

“Sir, I have good news. Our consignment got here this morning,” Alen said with big, wide eyes to show his excitement.

But his smile faltered when the man before him didn’t react at all.

“And that man who was acting as the mole for our Atlantic branch has been caught.” Alen clapped his hands. But this didn’t excite his boss either.

“And Miss Elara is chosen for the film as the lead singer,” Alen tested the theory.

He closed his eyes with a sigh. He already tried all the tricks up his sleeve to save his man from their boss’s wrath.

“Is that so?” Daniel nodded before he turned and took a long whiff.

Alen opened his one by one, raising his brows in surprise.

He hadn’t thought it would work, but this made one thing clear. Miss Elara was definitely their new gateway with trouble before their boss.

He will have to ensure he always stays in her good books. Alen nodded to himself before shooing the subordinate, who nodded in gratitude before practically running like his life was on the line.

Daniel heard little shuffling behind him and suppressed the urge to roll his eyes.

He wasn’t really planning on killing that man. He just intended to teach that man a lesson for not knowing the basics.

“What was this all about anyway, sir? What did you ask Liam to do that I don’t know about?” Alen asked, feeling a bit out of the loop.

Daniel grabbed the black coffee and took a sip before walking to the couch and sitting on it.

He placed his foot on the table, crossing one over the other before smirking.

“Just warned someone a little,” Daniel said.

Warned someone? But who? And why? As far as he knew, they didn’t face any attack. Alen pressed his lips into a thin line.

Why did it feel like his boss was getting harder to read with each passing day since they returned to the country?

“Who? Tell me. Who dared to cross our boss? I will skin that man alive!” Alen shouted, taking out his gun.

Daniel quirked his brows before scoffing.

“Drop the act. I know you are just doing it because you are dying to know,” Daniel said, and Alen cleared his throat, caught in 3D like this.

“Well, if you know that I can’t keep my curiosity, why don’t you tell me already?” Alen asked.

Daniel pulled out his phone and unlocked it, smirking at the photo that greeted him.

The photo of Elara sleeping on the hospital bed.

“Someone who touched what they shouldn’t have,” Daniel said before he chuckled coldly, his chuckle making a shudder travel down Alen’s spine, who gulped.

This wasn’t good.
