Cassian stepped out of the bathroom, pausing to stare at the woman lying motionless on the bed.
His brow was furrowed into a tight knot, his chest heavy with a brand of regret he’d never felt before.
When he finally turned to leave, his powerful legs felt strangely unsteady, as if the ground beneath him had shifted.
Fifteen minutes later, he had pulled himself together, transforming back into the polished Alpha of Ironthorn.
He walked to the edge of the bed for one last look at the raw, vivid marks he had branded into Trista’s skin.
He watched her pale, almost translucent face. Silent tears tracked down her cheeks, soaking into the pillow.
Every drop felt like a splash of molten lead on his heart, leaving him feeling suffocated and small.
Unable to find a single word that didn’t sound like a lie, he turned and fled the villa like a man running from a crime scene.
Once his Alpha’s suffocating pheromones vanished, Paisley, the omega servant, hurried into the
room.
The air was still thick with the aggressive scent of cedar and the shattered remains of primrose. She knew exactly what kind of brutal claiming had just taken place.
Keeping her head down, Paisley rushed to the bathroom to fill the jade tub with warm spri

Trista’s thick lashes flickered. She blinked with great effort, her eyes still a void of numb silence.
With Paisley’s careful help, she managed to get out of bed.

Her legs shook uncontrollably, every step a grueling battle against her own muscles. She soaked in the water, surrounded by healing petals, for a long time.

After swallowing the cold pill, the sheer mental and physical exhaustion dragged Trista down into a dark, nightmare–filled sleep.
Paisley stood guard outside the bedroom door, her palms sweaty as she gripped her communication stone.
All night, the wind howled around the villa. Cassian’s signature car didn’t reappear until the sky began to turn a cold, bruised grey.
At dawn, Cassian walked through the front door, bringing a gust of winter air with him.
