Samantha’s wretched wailing eventually managed to suppress Cassian’s rampaging Alpha instincts, allowing his fractured sanity to slowly piece itself back together.
She was right–Alaina was still inside. As long as his mother was there, Trista, as the Luna, wouldn’t face any life–threatening danger.
To ensure the situation didn’t escalate further, his priority was to get Samantha–the center of this storm- away from the estate.
Cassian leaned down to help the weakened Samantha up, his voice muffled and heavy. “Let’s go. I’ll take you back first p>
Cassian drove personally, dropping Samantha off at the curb of her apartment building.
Samantha noticed that while Cassian killed the engine, he made no move to get out and walk her in. Her eyes dimmed with disappointment as she hesitantly unbuckled her seatbelt.
Placing a slender hand on the door handle, she turned her head to look at Cassian’s profile, which was half- hidden in the shadows.
“Cassian,” she began, “tonight was my fault for dragging you down. I’ll buy a brand–new dress in a few days and apologize to Trista properly p>
Cassian was clearly trapped in a state of searing distraction.
He looked extremely agitated, his long fingers repeatedly tugging at his sweat–soaked shirt collar. His tone was icy. “Just throw that dress away. I’ll explain things to her myself. You don’t need to worry about these trivialities anymore p>
Samantha’s pupils flickered with a hint of guilt, but she pressed on with a fake display of thoughtfulness. “I can’t do that. It was my fault for crossing the line and wearing her clothes. Besides, she didn’t make things difficult for me in front of everyone–she even stepped up to speak for me at the end. I owe her a sincere apology, no matter what p>
Cassian felt a stifling pressure in his chest. He rolled down all the windows, letting the freezing night air roar into the cabin.
Seeing how much he resisted talking, Samantha had no choice but to push the door open and exit the car in silence.
Before leaving, as if to flaunt her “magnanimity,” she pointedly added, “Cassian, I’ve realized now that Trista is truly a wonderful person. Don’t go back there with that cold expression; remember to soften your attitude. I’m sure she’s already back home. You should hurry home to see her p>
The look Cassian gave Samantha was unreadable and complex.
He remained silent for a long time before speaking in a low voice. “The things I said at the estate tonight were to prevent Howard from hurting you and the boy again. Don’t let yourself get any ideas you shouldn’t

Standing under the streetlight, Samantha watched Cassian’s car merge into the fast lane and vanish into the night.
Her smile twisted into something hideous and predatory in the darkness.
Things had gone this far, and Cassian’s attitude couldn’t be clearer–he would provide protection, he would give compensation, but he would not give her that title.
Even though Trista had offered to step aside and begged for his release, he still refused to break the bond.
And then there were those stubborn old fossils in the pack–they would rather force him into another political mating than acknowledge her.

Late into the night, Cassian sped back toward the house at Blue Bay.
Based on the timing, Trista should have made it home already.
He kept trying to reassure himself: no matter what, she was the official Luna of Ironthorn. Even his ruthless grandfather wouldn’t dare kill her in front of so many witnesses.
However, the image of Trista’s deathly pale face and that self–deprecating smile of relief kept flashing in his mind, making his skin crawl with anxiety.
He was just about to step into the elevator when the doors slid open, and Fred stepped out, his face dark with fury.
The moment their eyes met, Cassian instinctively reached out to stop him.
But Fred was like a live wire–he violently shoved Cassian aside with a burst of predatory aggression. “Something happened to Trista. Get the hell out of my way p>
In the dead of the freezing night, Cassian and Fred reached Howard’s estate almost at the same time.
Wynn was waiting at the door, rushing toward Fred with tears in her eyes. “Fred, thank god you’re here… Trista just suffered the pack’s harshest punishment. Grandfather is forcing her to stay on her knees–he won’t let anyone help her up p>
Before Wynn could even finish, Cassian had already stormed into the living room like a gale force wind.
Cassian edged toward Trista’s swaying, fragile figure. His heart hammered against his ribs as he reached down with trembling hands, trying to lift her off the freezing, hard stone floor.
Fred reached her side at the same time, violently slamming his shoulder into Cassian to knock him back.
