Chapter 232

Trista’s POV

My words left Cassian completely speechless.

Finished

We stood there in a dead–lock. The flickering Alpha aura in his eyes seemed to freeze over from pure shock.

He stared at me for what felt like an eternity before gritting out every single word, “Are you sure you want to keep pushing me like this p>

My tone was dead serious. “I’m doing this for your own good, Cassian. For all of you p>

The air felt like it had turned to ice.

My calm, focused demeanor acted like a match to a powder keg, detonating Cassian’s violent temper.

He lunged forward, his hands clamping onto my shoulders with enough force to bruise the bone. His voice was terrifyingly clear. “Fine. Since you’re so determined to be the ‘bigger person,’ then start acting like the Luna you claim to be. Just don’t you dare come crying to me when you regret this p>

With that, he shoved me back and stormed out, disappearing into his black car.

I stumbled back, watching him speed away.

He gave all his tenderness and protection to Samantha and their kid, yet he expected me to sacrifice everything just to keep the “perfect mate” facade intact for the pack.

He offered them unconditional devotion while offering me nothing but heartless demands.

He thought he could bully me back into being that girl who lived and breathed for him.

But that girl died a long time ago, buried under his endless betrayals. He’s never going to get what he wants.

Around 3:00 PM, Zander dropped a folder on my desk. “A group of international experts is visiting next week, and the media will be covering the whole thing. You’re the project lead, so the hosting duties fall on you p>

When it comes to work, I’m always at a hundred percent.

I gave him a confident nod. “Don’t worry. Alpha Isaiah’s treatment is in the home stretch. It won’t be long before our results put this center on the map globally p>

Zander nodded, and we got lost in medical talk for a while.

Fred pushed the door open a few minutes later, and Zander took his cue to head out.

Fred scanned my office, which overlooked the entire territory, and whistled. “Nice setup p>

I handed him a glass of water. “Zander’s been looking out for me p>

“Any normal Alpha would treat you better than Cassian does,” Fred said, never one to sugarcoat things.

I shrugged, giving him a dry, self–deprecating smile. “I was young and dumb. I let a pretty face blind me p>

Fred leaned against the window, his expression turning serious. “You’re working so hard to hook those two up–Samantha’s probably going to wake up laughing every morning. She gets the prize, you get the blame. Aren’t you worried about Howard coming for your head once he finds out p>

I peeled an orange and handed him a slice. “I don’t even care about Cassian anymore; why would I care about that stubborn old man p>

I said firmly. “If playing the villain is what it takes to get that mating severance, I’ll play it. I want Cassian to be so sick of the sight of me that he kicks me out of the Ironthorn Pack himself p>

Fred stood up straight. “I’ve got a booth at the club tonight. Come by after work. I’m bringing that disaster–werewolf, Isaiah, too p>

An idea sparked in my mind. “Can I bring Samantha p>

Fred blinked, surprised, then shrugged. “Sure. Whatever p>

After Fred left, I paced back and forth alone in front of the window.

Then I made two phone calls–one to a friend, and the other to Samantha.

Around 7:00 PM, the Imperial Club was a chaotic mess of heavy metal and clashing pheromones.

I waited near the first–floor dance floor for ten minutes until a young guy in a hoodie approached me and slipped a small, sealed vial into my hand.

I tucked it deep into my bag, my heart racing, and got out of there.

I made my way to the third floor, feeling guilty as hell. Samantha and Isaiah were already waiting outside the VIP suite.

I checked the empty hallway before asking, “Why aren’t you guys inside p>

Samantha fidgeted with her dress. “I don’t know any of those wolves. I didn’t want to go in without you p>

Isaiah suddenly leaned into my space, his sharp eyes narrowing as if he were catching a scent. “Trista, why are you covered in cold sweat p>

I shoved him back, making up a quick excuse. “I ran up the stairs because I didn’t want to keep you waiting. Give me a break p>

I was playing it cool, but I was a nervous wreck.

Isaiah might act like a clown, but his instincts are lethal.

I had to be perfect tonight.

This was my shot–I was going to make sure Cassian and Samantha ended up in bed together.

We pushed open the door, and the noisy room went dead silent.

“Sorry I’m late, brought a couple of friends,” I said with a smile, introducing Samantha and Isaiah.

I spotted the empty seat next to Cassian and reached for my bag, ready to sit down.

But before I could even touch the sofa, Fred grabbed my arm and yanked me up.

Then, in a move that caught me totally off guard, he shoved Samantha right into the seat next to Cassian.

I stood there, stunned by Fred’s “help p>

Wynn, who was sitting on Cassian’s other side, stood up to make room. “Trista, sit over here p>
