Abbott looked like he was barely twenty, with a clean–cut baby face and a shy smile when he greeted the healers.

Trista and Xander traded a heavy look. They had to shove down their gut–level fear of a High Alpha’s aura before they finally pushed the door open.
Downstairs in the living room, Alvin was pacing near the spiral staircase like a nervous wreck, while Cassian sat in the lounge area, calmly sipping coffee.
Alvin kept shooting him looks full of pure hatred, but Cassian just stayed detached, looking right through him.
Suddenly, the sound of a violent struggle echoed from the second floor. Cassian slammed his coffee cup down and bolted upright.
Xander and Trista came rushing down the stairs, their footsteps frantic.
Behind them, the third healer, Dr. Halsey, was ghost–white and visibly shaking from pure terror.
Cassian’s eyes immediately locked onto a jagged, bleeding gash on Trista’s palm. His Alpha aura exploded, and he started for the stairs, ready to tear the place apart

She looked him dead in the eye, refusing to budge. Cassian finally stood down, pulling back his leth energy as they walked back to the sofa.
He carefully sat her down, barking at Dr. Halsey to get the first aid kit and bandage her up.
Xander wiped cold sweat from his forehead and looked at Alvin. “Alpha Alistair’s mental threshold is completely unstable. Any foreign scent sets him off. We’ll come back in three days with specialized sedatives p>
Alvin’s cold gaze shifted back to Cassian.
He let out a harsh snort. “Next time, only the two lead healers need to show up. As for certain… troublemakers… there’s no need for you to step foot on Shadowfang territory again p>
The exit order was loud and clear. Xander looked at Cassian, feeling the awkwardness of the situation.

This kind of domestic, attentive care was something Trista had never experienced in all their years together.
Instead of feeling touched, it made her skin crawl.
She wasn’t used to him clocking out early to wait for her for dinner.
She wasn’t used to him showing up at the Center just to hold her hand in front of everyone.
