Chapter 268

Third Person’s POV

Finished

“Trista is spreading lies,” Samantha hissed. “She’s telling everyone I’m just some low–rent rogue you keep on a leash–a pathetic she–wolf who does nothing but break up mating and seduce Alphas. Now, people look at me like I’m trash, and they’ve even dragged you into their filthy rumors p>

Cassian didn’t flinch. His breathing didn’t even skip a beat.

He cut through her accusations with a single, cold question, “And what does any of that have to do with you almost dying today p>

Samantha scrambled forward, nearly falling off the hospital bed in her desperation. Her voice was a broken plea. “Cassian, I know I was out of line with Trista the other day. I spoke without thinking. I just wanted to buy her flowers to ask for her forgiveness–to beg her to stop using her rank to suffocate me and ruin my life p>

Tears began to well up as she curled into a ball of fear. “But Trista made me stand in that hallway for everyone to gawk at, and then she gave Isaiah the signal to take me. Isaiah is a psycho p>

“He knows how sensitive our senses are. He strapped me to high–altitude gear, and at the end, he literally hung me out of a helicopter door and threatened to drop me p>

Samantha’s teeth chattered uncontrollably, her face as white as the hospital sheets. “He’s a total lunatic, Cassian. He didn’t even look at me like I was a living being. My life was literally in the hands of the Grim Reaper p>

She reached out with a shaking hand, trying to grab his sleeve, desperate for even a shred of Alpha protection.

Cassian took a deliberate step back. His pine–scented pheromones turned sharp and jagged, forming an invisible wall between them.

“Samantha,” he said, looking down at her with eyes that were starting to glow a deep, predatory gold. His voice rumbled with the power of an Alpha. “I’m only going to say this once p>

The sheer weight of his bloodline hit her like a physical blow. Her sobbing stopped instantly; every instinct she had as a wolf told her to drop to the floor and tremble.

“Since you and your son got back to LA, I’ve given you everything you asked for. That was to pay back my debt from years ago p>

Cassian’s eyes remained dead. “You can be ambitious. You can even test my patience. But you never touch my mate. That is the line p>

Samantha shook her head frantically, her breathing coming in sharp, shallow gasps.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about, Cassian! I never thought about challenging Trista p>

“Making your mother ‘collapse‘ in front of that restaurant–how much did you think you could push me?

Samantha’s eyes darted around. She shrieked her denial: “That wasn’t an act! Ask the healers! Look at the monitors! She really fainted p>

“Then explain the wolfsbane mixed into the bouquet you sent Trista p>

The word hit the room like a physical shock.

Samantha felt her knees go weak.

She tumbled off the bed, collapsing into a heap at Cassian’s feet like a criminal before a judge. “No, it wasn’t me! I ordered the flowers, yes, but the shop must have messed up! Cassian, even the dumbest wolf knows that poisoning a Luna is a death sentence. Why would I risk that p>

Cassian looked down at her with pure revulsion.

In his eyes, she was nothing but a lying, inferior wolf rolling on her belly to beg for mercy.

“I warned you never to push Trista’s buttons,” he said coldly. “Consider today your lesson p>

He paused, his voice turning brutally honest. “You clearly don’t know Isaiah. Today, he was just playing a game with you. If there’s a next time, I promise he’ll rip your throat out himself–and I won’t do a thing to stop him p>

Samantha’s mouth hung open, her pleas dying in her throat.

She looked at the man in front of her and realized for the first time that to him, she was just a discarded

pawn.

“Since you turned down the money I offered, don’t expect a second chance,” Cassian said, his tone flat.

“As for Algernon’s real parentage… as long as you keep your mouth shut and stay in line, I’ll keep that secret. But if you ever touch Trista again, I’ll let Howard handle your ‘disposal‘ personally p>

Samantha’s legs gave out, and she slumped onto the cold floor like a pile of rags.

“From now on, handle everything through Humphrey. He’ll deal with your needs p>

Cassian turned to walk out. In a final burst of despair, Samantha lunged forward and grabbed his ankle, her nails tearing at his trousers. “Cassian! You’re really just throwing me away p>

Cassian looked down at the pathetic female at his feet, radiating a suffocating sense of rejection. “Change how you address me. I never want to hear my name come out of your mouth again p>

He didn’t give her another chance to beg. He shook her off and walked out of the room without looking back.
