Third Person’s POV
Trista tried to pull her hand away, but Sayer whimpered and shrunk deeper into her embrace, refusing to let go.
She had no choice but to look at Elias for help.
Elias broke the tension. “Alpha, Luna, let’s step outside to talk p>
Samantha couldn’t hide her excitement. She practically skipped out of the room in her high heels, following closely behind Elias.
Cassian, however, stayed behind. His feet felt like they were bolted to the floor, heavy and immovable.
He twitched his jaw, his voice strained as he looked at Trista. “Trista… that child. What did he just call you p>
Trista held Sayer close, her voice as cold and lifeless as a winter morning. “Go on, Alpha Cassian. Get out there. Don’t keep your ‘Luna‘ waiting p>
Cassian’s face went ghastly pale.
He took a step toward her, but Samantha ducked back into the room and caught his arm. “Cassian, come on. We shouldn’t keep Mr. Manwaring waiting p>
Cassian stared at Trista for a long ten seconds, his eyes searching hers for a crack that wasn’t there. Finally, he turned and followed Samantha out.
Once the room was empty, Trista called the duty healer to administer a pheromone sedative for Sayer.
She stayed by the bed until Elias finished the paperwork and returned. Only then did she get up to leave.
In the hallway, Xander intercepted her.
“There’s one spot left for the Healer’s Symposium in San Francisco in three days,” he said. “Does your team have a recommendation? ”
San Francisco? In three days?
Trista didn’t hesitate. “Xander, let me go. I’ll give my spot for the Seattle trip at the end of the month to Dr. Halsey p>
Xander looked unsure. “But if it’s San Francisco, you’d have to leave tonight to make the trip p>
“I can leave whenever,” Trista said firmly.
Xander studied her for a moment, then gave a slow nod.
Trista’s mind was racing.
This was it. She could take care of the “burden” in her womb in San Francisco early–she wouldn’t have to endure another five days of agony or risk Cassian finding out.

She was heading toward the elevator, mentally finalizing her plans, when Cassian’s hand clamped onto her
wrist.
She looked around to see if anyone was watching and wrenched her arm away. “In my office. Now.
They walked back in total silence.
The second the door clicked shut, Cassian yanked her into his arms.
No matter how much she thrashed, he held her like a steel cage.
His breathing was heavy, laced with a sense of utter defeat.
“Trista, I’m sorry, I messed up. I should have clarified Samantha’s status immediately p>
Trista stopped struggling and let out a cold, sharp laugh. “You knew it was wrong, and yet you let it stand anyway p>
“If I had denied it in public, the news of Algernon being an illegitimate child would have spread through the whole school,” Cassian said desperately, his pheromones trying to soothe her.
“He’s just a pup. He can’t handle that kind of talk. Please, just try to understand p>
Trista shoved him back with all her strength, putting the desk between them.
“Well, congratulations, Cassian. You’ve officially introduced her to the public as your Luna p>
Cassian’s eyes went red. He shook his head frantically. ”
! That wasn’t my intention p>
“Your intention doesn’t matter,” Trista said flatly.
“What matters is that you claimed her as your Luna. You claimed you didn’t want your son to be an illegitimate child. That says everything p>
Cassian’s eyes were bloodshot, his voice trembling. “Believe me, I’ve settled it. I promise it won’t happen again p>
“Your promises are worthless.” Trista’s face was a mask of indifference.
“A pup who hasn’t even reached adulthood yet, and he’s already this vicious to his own kind? As a father, you should probably spend more time on discipline and less on making excuses p>
Cassian walked around the table, grabbing her shoulders.
He stared into her eyes, but the words seemed to die in his throat.
“At first, I just thought you didn’t love me anymore,” Trista said with a self–deprecating smile.
“But since Samantha and that kid got back to LA, you’ve ignored me while clutching that contract like a lifeline. I used to think you were just an asshole p>
She paused, her tone turning lethal.

“Isaiah is just a friend. He was just tired of seeing me live like this. But you used your influence to ach grandfather force him back to Europe.
Trista hissed the next words through her teeth. “You’re just as despicable as Samantha. You two are a perfect match p>
“Stop it!” Cassian roared. He couldn’t take her look of pure disgust anymore.
His pressure spiked, causing the air in the room to feel like lead.
Trista took a step back. “The healing center is sending me to San Francisco. I leave tonight. I don’t have time to waste on you. Go to Samantha. I hope by the time I get back, you’ve finally decided to sign the papers.
Cassian stumbled back, his eyes brimming with tears. “Trista… I know you don’t want to see me right now. I’ll give you your space. We’ll talk when you get back p>
Trista watched his retreating figure, her eyes full of nothing but cold, final determination.
