In the middle of the scuffle, the claws extending from Wilmot’s fingers accidentally caught Fred’s jaw.
Fred let out a theatrical yelp, clutching his face and dropping into a crouch.
Wynn immediately lunged forward to shield him, glaring at her father. “Dad! Now you’re hitting Fred, too p>
Fred leaned into Wynn’s leg, groaning with a voice that sounded like he was on his deathbed. “It’s over, Wynn… I think my jaw is dislocated… My skull is definitely cracked p>
Wynn reached out to touch his face, and Fred gave her waist a quick pinch, shot her a look, and winked.
Wynn caught the signal instantly and played along. “Fred, hold on. I’m taking you to the healing center right now p>
The beta stepped in and hauled Wilmot back. “If Fred’s parents find out he got jumped at our place, they’ll bring their whole pack and level this house by tomorrow morning p>
Seeing Fred curled up on the floor, Wilmot finally pulled back, muttering curses under his breath.
Alaina personally helped Fred up, and he stood up slowly, acting like he was about to faint.
Alaina took the opening. “Wynn, get Cassian back to his room–and take Fred to get checked out while you’re at it p>
Before they could move, Howard–who had been sitting in the head chair like a cold stone statue–finally spoke.
He slammed his cane against the floor. The heavy thud was followed by a wave of ancient but dominant pressure that smothered the room, making everyone hold their breath.
“Cassian,” he commanded with absolute authority. “The date for your union with the Porter girl is set. From this second on, you stay put and get ready for the ceremony p>
He glared at Cassian, his voice a low threat. “Your father was humiliated at Silverlight. Ironthorn does not take losses like that. If you want us to leave that family alone, you’ll shut up and mate with Rowena p>
Cassian’s lips twitched, the blood soaking deeper into his bandages, but his voice was as hard as ice. “It’s my mark. I decide who gets it. I am not mating with Rowena p>
Alaina leaned against the wall, closing her eyes in exhaustion.
Whether it was the old fox Howard or her arrogant husband, all they ever saw was expansion and profit.

He shot a look at Wynn, who immediately grabbed her bag. “I’ll go get the car p>
Just as Fred grabbed Cassian’s arm, an omega burst into the room, looking panicked. “The Tundras are here. They heard Alpha Cassian almost died saving his ex, and they’ve brought Rowena here. They’re demanding an explanation p>
Wilmot blew up instantly, roaring at the omega, “The news about Shadowfang was supposed to be on lockdown! How the hell did the Porters find out? ”
Cassian and Fred traded a dark look.
The Tundras showing up uninvited and blocking the gates meant they weren’t here for a friendly chat— they were here to force a hand.
Alaina barked orders at the servants to clean up the fruit and glass.
Cassian struggled to stand, wanting to leave, but a sharp bark from Howard pinned him to the spot.

Fred sighed, realizing they were stuck, and helped Cassian back onto the sofa.
Once the living room was staged to look like a peaceful family home, the omega led the guests in.
Rowena’s parents still radiated the raw power of their prime.
Rowena followed in a sleek beige suit, her short hair perfectly styled, her luxury watch catching the light.
She didn’t have the typical “socialite” vibe; she looked like a high–level Hollywood executive–sharp, cold, and efficient.

Rowena’s father took over, his tone a direct challenge. “Alpha Alistair was ‘kind‘ enough to give us the heads–up. Otherwise, Ironthorn would still be playing us Tundras for fools p>
Cassian glanced at Fred, who caught the hint and helped him up.
Without a word of greeting to the guests, Cassian dropped a single sentence, “I’m going back to the healing center. Enjoy your talk p>
He started to walk out just as they walked in. The Porters‘ faces went as black as coal.
