Cassian’s dark eyes remained glued to the end of the hallway.
The moment Trista stepped out, he moved toward her instinctively.

He saw it immediately–the thin, red scratch across her cheek.

His chest tightened. He reached out, his fingers trembling as he tried to brush her hair back to get a better look at the injury.
Trista didn’t say a word. She just coldly tilted her head, dodging his touch entirely.
Cassian’s hand froze in mid–air. The memory of the oath he’d sworn on the island flickered through his mind. His fingers curled inward before he slowly, bitterly pulled his hand back.
Wilmot, standing nearby, didn’t even try to hide the look of pure disgust on his face.
He pointed a finger at Trista, his voice booming with irritation. “You again. Every time you’re around, it’s a disaster p>
“Father, watch your tone,” Cassian snapped.
“Am I wrong?” Wilmot’s temper flared. “If it wasn’t for this woman, Wynn wouldn’t be degrading herself by getting into a common street fight in a public restaurant p>
“Dad, don’t pin your garbage on her,” Wynn cut in, stepping forward. “I just don’t like Thomasina. Her face is a target, and I’ll slap her every time I see her p>
Wilmot started to roar back, but Alaina shut him down with a single look.
Seeing both his children side with Trista, he could only seethe in silence, his face turning a dark, bruised purple.
Angela saw her opening and turned to Alpha Edwin. “Uncle, Madison and I were there. That beta started it by threatening us, and Wynn threw the first punch. There are cameras everywhere–one look at the footage will show everyone exactly who was disrespecting the Blackthorns p>
Madison chimed in, “Alpha Edwin, the baby almost didn’t make it because of this riot. If you let them walk, where does that leave the reputation of the Blackthorns? ”
That gave Edwin the leverage he needed.
He didn’t want a total war with Ironthorn, but he wasn’t about to back down either.
He scanned the Simmons family before letting his gaze settle on Cassian.

They locked eyes for a silent second before she looked away. That total, effortless dismissal felt like a bucket of ice water over Cassian’s heart.
Just then, Elias stepped out of the station.
He walked straight to Trista, sliding into place beside her with a natural ease. “Sorry, did I keep you waiting p>
Trista shook her head, her voice softening in a way it never did for Cassian. “Thanks for coming all this way so late p>
Elias gave her a warm, knowing smile. The chemistry between them was so obvious it made the air around them feel crowded.
Madison and Angela looked like they were about to choke on their own jealousy.
Alaina watched her son, her heart aching. She knew exactly what this scene was doing to him.
