Mrs. Porter’s face went pale. she clutched her chest in hindsight. “There are only a handful of people in this city who actually want that woman dead, and we’re on that list. Cassian isn’t just warning Blackthorn- he’s warning us p>
‘Exactly,” Rowena cautioned sternly. “A few petty insults are one thing, but do not–under any circumstances–actually move against her. The man is unhinged right now p>

Rowena let out a dry, self–mocking laugh. She saw the board clearly now. “I wanted this mating to level up our pack, but Cassian isn’t the man for the job anymore. An Alpha who sacrifices family interests for a personal grudge has lost his mind. Right now, I need to figure out how to keep our current deals with [ronthorn alive, not provoke him p>
Mrs. Porter nodded frantically. “Thank God you told me. That brat Madison almost talked me into a suicide mission p>
Thomasina is Samantha’s aunt; their family has a blood feud with Trista,” Rowena said, looking off into he distance.
And Madison is just a parasite who loves watching the world burn. Stay away from both of them p>
As Rowena escorted her mother away, Madison stepped out from the shadows of the trees.
‘So that’s why Rowena folded so fast,” she thought. “Cassian really went for Blackthorn’s throat p>
Madison smirked. Rowena was a survivor; she knew exactly when to cut her losses.
But when Madison thought about how Trista was the reason the Bluestar matriarch still wouldn’t let her father bring her into the pack, her eyes burned with pure venom.
Still, if even giants like Blackthorn and Tundra were retracting their claws, a bastard daughter with no pack backing stood zero chance. Cassian would snap her neck without a second thought.
She decided to pull back her schemes for now and wait in the dark.
Walking out of the park, Madison ran right into Trista and her colleagues.
The second Trista saw her, her gaze turned to ice.
“Relax, Dr. Holmes. Drop the ‘ready for war‘ face,” Madison sneered, her tone dripping with bitter mockery. “I’m not here to cause trouble today p>

Madison stepped closer to Trista, leaning in to hiss through gritted teeth, “You win p>

Trista’s brow furrowed, her eyes full of suspicion. “What are you talking about, Madison? What do you mean ‘I win? ”
“You’re really in the dark?” Madison laughed harshly. “Cassian just defied his entire Council and dismantled the Blackthorns‘ future just to protect you. There isn’t a wolf in L.A. who’d dare touch a hair on your head now p>
Trista gave her a look of pure indifference before walking away.
Even if what Madison said was true, she didn’t believe for a second that Cassian did it for her.
That man was always calculating. Everything he did was likely a move to soothe his own cheap guilt.
He never made a deal where he lost; he was probably just using Blackthorn’s corpse to build a bigger empire for Ironthorn.
Evening Rush Hour. Downtown L.A.
Traffic was a nightmare. Humphrey, sitting in the passenger seat of the Ironthorn sedan, spotted Trista standing by her car on the shoulder, looking stranded. He immediately signaled the driver to pull over.
‘Alpha, it looks like Luna Trista has a flat p>
Before Humphrey could finish, and before the car had even come to a full stop, Cassian shoved the door
open.
He slammed it shut and started toward her with long, frantic strides–only to freeze dead in his tracks.
Another car had pulled up just ahead of hers. Alistair was stepping out.
Cassian watched as Trista broke into a jog toward him, a bright, unguarded smile lighting up her face–a look Cassian hadn’t seen in forever.
The image hit him like a physical blow.
“Alpha Alistair! Your leg is finally better p>
Trista grabbed Alistair’s hands, excitedly spinning around in a little circle.
Alistair was rocking a slim–fit dark suit, the top two buttons of his shirt undone. He had that natural. rugged swagger that made even a formal suit look rebellious.
He pulled his hands back with a mock–annoyed look, but his eyes were full of affection, “How did you manage to blow a tire already p>
Trista looked up at his ruggedly handsome face and gave a playful wink. “I guess I looked too good today. The tire couldn’t handle it and just quit on me p>
Alistair took off his jacket and tossed it at her, his deep eyes shimmering with a smile. “Go stand over
