Chapter 92

Cassian’s POV

“My love for you doesn’t make me your bargaining chip. Trista violently released her pressure, letting it collide with mine. The air rippled invisibly. “You have no right to use my happiness to pay for your guilt toward her p>

I took a step forward, grabbing her shoulders, trying to envelop her in a calming layer of my pheromones. “Don’t listen to Wynn’s nonsense. I never intended to terminate our mating p>

She shoved me hard, her voice spiking. “You only agreed to my grandfather not to break the mating bond because it was convenient! You don’t want to let go of me, your ‘respectable Luna,’ but you still want to protect her. What do you take me for p>

“I want you to calm down!” My voice rose, too. “You ran this far just to force me to choose between you and Samantha! But you know she suffered so much for me, I can’t p>

“Stop it!” Trista violently threw her bag onto the ground, scrambling onto the overpass railing. Her wolf claws were extended, nails gleaming cold.

“Trista p>

The moment she swung over the railing, my chest constricted violently. My heart skipped a beat, and my breathing hitched.

The wind howled down from the height, carrying a cold, metallic tang, scattering her scent-

That familiar softness, which once calmed my rage, now felt like a dull knife scraping against my ribs.

“Trista p>

I took a step forward, but the ground beneath me seemed to tilt.

My wolf slammed against my sternum, a deep, uncontrolled sound catching in my throat, warning me, “No aura–she’s already at the edge p>

She clung to the railing, her knuckles white from the effort. Seeing me approach, she let go with one hand, as if pushing herself into a more dangerous position. “Don’t come closer p>

I immediately raised both hands, palms outward, signaling I wouldn’t move.

My Alpha instinct screamed to haul her back, pin her in my arms, and confirm her heart was still beating.

But I knew, more clearly than ever, that if I took one more step, she would truly let go.

Finished

Her eyes were red. She screamed at me, her voice ragged by the wind, but still sharp as a blade. “I’m telling you again, I’m not being difficult! I’m not forcing you to choose, and I’m not trying to break up you and Samantha. I don’t love you anymore! I don’t want you! You disgust me! Do you understand p>

Every word felt like a physical blow.

I instinctively tried to stabilize her with a calming layer of pheromones, but the scent hit a wall —the mating link didn’t connect. It only twitched beneath my ribs and died.

She was breathing in panicked gasps. “Do I have to jump off this bridge before you believe I genuinely want to terminate the mating bond? Do you believe I’m not throwing a fit, not trying to manipulate you p>

Her words struck me, making my vision swim. Anger surged in my blood, but I forced it down, refusing to let it surface.

If I lost control even slightly, she would take it as the final push.

“I believe you.” I gritted my teeth, keeping my voice low and steady. “I believe you p>

Tears streamed down her face, as if she had finally found a path to drive me away. “Then leave now! Go sign the agreement! Never interfere in my life again p>

“Fine.” I nodded, my throat tight and aching. “I won’t interfere with you staying here. Just calm down first–don’t do anything foolish p>

Her shoulders visibly slumped, like she had released half a breath.

It was only a fraction of a second. Her focus shifted, allowing herself to blink.

That was the moment.

I lunged forward, moving faster than humanly possible.

As my fingers neared the railing, I shot out my claws, the sharp edges grazing the skin on the back of her hand. I couldn’t use force, but I needed to lock onto her wrist in the shortest possible time-

Then I yanked her back violently.

She tumbled back into the safety of my arms, her back hitting my chest.

My breathing broke completely. My heart hammered painfully against my eardrums, like I had just stopped a furious chase.

She fought wildly in my arms, her fists beating my chest. “Let go! Let go of me p>

I held fast. As my arms tightened, I felt her temperature, her trembling, her strength weakening from lack of oxygen–all more real than any words.

“Do you know how dangerous that was?” My voice was choked, a raw scream. “What if you had fallen p>

She raised her head, her eyes bloodshot, like a desperate animal. Every word was laced with agony. “If I can’t break the contract with you, I’d rather die p>

I froze completely, the statement piercing through me.

My wolf reared in

up my mind, wanting to shatter something, wanting to hide her away. the deepest fear pinned it down again–the fear was not losing her love, but losing her.

But

I tightened my hold, locking her against me. I closed my eyes, pressing my forehead against her hair, forcing every surge of aura, rage, and possessiveness back down

I finally understood.

This wasn’t an argument, a tantrum, or a test of my limits.

She was truly willing to risk her life to get out of this mateship.

my throat.
