Every fiber of my being yearned to stride across the room, take her in my arms, and make her mine forever. Dierdra be damned.

Here in this room, with the firelight playing across her body in that stunning outfit, every last one of the barriers against us being together was rapidly melting away.

“I’m sorry. Don’t look for me.” Avery sobbed as she closed and locked my bedroom door. I heard her feet pounding down the hall as she escaped into the night.
Feeling her depart from me was like someone had tied a leash around my heart and was dragging it out of my body. It was a physical sundering that tore at my very soul.
I shifted into my wolf form and began to shred at the fabric holding me.
I could hear her footsteps pounding down the stairs and heard a door slam.
