From dusk into nightfall, as lights flickered on and the city bloomed with holiday color, they walked. Christmas was approaching, and Solara glowed with vibrant lights and festive cheer.
When they reached the central plaza, Lilian ducked into a convenience store and came back with a few cans of beer. They sat on the steps, surrounded by the buzz of couples passing by hand in hand.
She cracked open a can and handed it to Jill, who took a sip, then another, and finally began to speak.
“Lilian… did you know? I’ve liked him for ten years. The moment I saw him, I fell for him p>
Lilian didn’t say a word. She knew Jill just needed someone to listen now.
“I always thought that if I stayed by his side long enough, he’d finally see me. I worked so hard to be someone worthy of him, to get closer… but instead, he just kept drifting further away. When I saw him with his girlfriend last time, I knew it was time to let go. But how do you let go of ten years like it’s nothing?

“Tonight,” she said into the mic, “is the night my friend says goodbye to the past. I’d like to dedicate a song to her. To help her let go. That beautiful girl sitting on the steps this one’s for you p>
Her cool, clear voice began to sing a song unfamiliar to everyone, but one that had carried Lilian through the darkest moments of a past life.
Maybe it was the beer, or the moonlight, or memories she could never forget was, her voice carried a quiet sorrow that struck a chord with everyone listening.
