At the bar, Eda sat slumped in a corner, downing drink after drink.
Tears streaked down her face as she clutched at the woman beside her, pouring her heart out. “Ermmm… my
dad actually hit me. He hit me! All these years, he never helped me once; now not only does he ignore me, he curses at me too p>
The woman at her side, graceful and poised, looked at Eda’s tearstained mess of a face and murmured gently, “Your dad’s only thinking of what’s best for you. He’s just been blinded by Lillian; you have to try and understand him p>
If Lillian had been there, she would’ve instantly recognized the woman-Olivia, the one she’d already taught a lesson to once before.
After that beating, Olivia hadn’t dared to retaliate outright; Lillian had too much dirt on her. So she’d settled for egging Eda on, hoping to drive Lillian out of Riverdale High School.
Unfortunately, Eda turned out to be an idiot; not only was she crushed flat by Lillian at every turn, she was completely useless. The thought only made Olivia more bitter.
Eda sobbed harder, choking out, “That wench… it’s all because of her. If it weren’t for her, my dad would never have hit me. Because of her, Daylen doesn’t even look at me. It’s all her fault. I, Eda, will never live under the same sky as her p>
Olivia shot her a look of disgust, though her voice stayed soothing. “Don’t cry. That wench is always like this; she loves stealing other people’s boyfriends. With her around, there’s no way Daylen could ever see the good in you p>
“Yes… if she didn’t exist, Daylen would see how good I am.” Eda’s gaze turned glassy; her eyes locked on the bottle in her hand, her expression twisting into something feral as the corners of her mouth curled into a strange, chilling smile.
After the birthday banquet, Geo called, asking to meet.
The next morning, Lillian requested leave from Principal Lee. He approved it right away, only reminding her to show up on time for the English competition.
Since the competition was in Kingston, Lillian packed her things, tucked everything into her space, slung a small bag over her shoulder, and headed straight there.
The moment she stepped out of the airport, a red sports car screeched to a halt in front of her.
The door swung open, and a tall woman in sleek leather climbed out. The outfit hugged every curve, her figure stunning; she grinned at the dazed look on Lillian’s face. “What? Don’t recognize me p>

“Fine, my bad. But don’t tell me you actually came all the way to the airport just to pick me up?” Truthfully, Lillian liked Ashley’s style-straightforward, carefree, completely unrestrained.
“Of course I came to pick you up. Grandpa said you’d be in Kingston today. Cayden was supposed to come, but I cut him off. As if I don’t know what’s going on in that boy’s head. Hmph! No way I’m letting him get what he wants.” She shoved Lillian straight into the passenger seat.
The red car shot off like a streak of fire, tearing away from the airport.
It sped all the way into the Geo’s estate.
No sooner had they stopped than Cayden came striding out. “Ashley! You actually tricked me? Told me mom was looking for me so you could sneak off to pick up Lillian without me p>
Ashley stepped out, rolled her eyes, and drawled, “Your mom really was looking for you. How’s that lying? Besides, Lillian’s my sister; obviously I should be the one to go. Who exactly do you think you
are p>
Watching the two siblings bicker, Lillian couldn’t help laughing.
Cayden caught sight of her standing nearby and immediately looked flustered.
Ashley hooked her arm around Lillian’s shoulder again, smiling. “Come on, Grandpa’s been waiting for you forever. Don’t waste time talking to this fool.” With that, she dragged Lillian inside.
The moment they stepped through the door, Cayden called out toward the living room, “Mom, Lillian’s here! Didn’t you say you wanted to meet the little doctor who saved grandpa p>
Laura, Cayden’s mother, was trimming a bouquet of flowers. She turned at his words.
