At that moment, by the hot spring, a spoiled rich brat was putting on a little performance- harassing a well-bred woman.
Several impeccably dressed men and women stood at the edge of the spring. At the front was a man in a white shirt and yellow slacks, his short blond hair gleaming under the light; there was a careless, mocking edge to him, and the black diamond on his ear caught every eye.

Travis laughed, glancing at the women beside him. “These women? They’re nothing compared to you. Say the word, Noreen, and I’ll give up the entire forest just to hang from your tree p>
A cold smile curved Noreen’s lips. “Don’t. Stay in your playground; I can’t afford to be the one you ‘settle down’ for.” With that, she turned to leave.
Travis didn’t bother hiding his amusement. Spitting out his gum, he said lazily, “I’d say, all it would take is a word from my old man, and your father would hand you over to me without a second thought p>
His words froze Noreen in her tracks. Seeing her stunned expression, Travis smirked wider. “So, what’s it gonna be? Agree on your own… or p>
“Scum,” Noreen spat, glaring at him.
She stepped past him, but before she could get far, his hand shot out and clamped around her wrist, yanking her back toward him.
Noreen’s face twisted with fury as she tried to shake him off. “Let go. Did you hear me? Let. Go p>
Instead, his grip tightened, that same infuriating grin on his face. “You’re even prettier when you’re angry. I like it p>
Seeing his smug expression only fueled her anger. “Travis, I’m warning you, don’t push your luck. The Brooks family may be powerful, but don’t forget, the Dune family isn’t weak. If you disrespect me, Cameron and the others won’t let you off p>
Travis threw his head back and laughed. “Cameron! Oh, right, your childhood sweethearts. They’re always playing your little knights in shining armor, aren’t they? Funny, I don’t see them

“Looks like they can’t protect you all the time. So, how about it? Be my girlfriend; I’ll protect you from now on p>
Shame and fury burned in Noreen’s chest. Without thinking, she raised her free hand and swung at him.
But before her palm could land, Travis caught her wrist midair.
The awkward position sent heat flooding her cheeks. Out of the corner of her eye, she glanced toward the water, where Lillian sat with her eyes closed, looking completely at ease. Noreen wanted to call out, to ask for help, but the words stuck in her throat.
“What’s this? Still throwing punches? Careful, sweetheart, you’re begging for trouble. Let’s see who’s gonna save you today!” Travis’s eyes narrowed, dangerous light flashing in their depths.
Just as panic began to creep into Noreen’s chest-
The water rippled.
The girl slowly opened her eyes, her gaze glittering like a night full of stars. With a languid turn, she shifted her body, sharp eyes sweeping over the people gathered by the hot spring. A cold, mocking smile tugged at her lips.
“So,” she drawled, “what is this little performance supposed to be? Some tragic love story… or something a bit darker p>
Travis stared into the water, momentarily entranced by her breathtaking beauty. Her voice jolted him back to reality, and he let out a low, teasing laugh.
“Obviously, the tragic love story,” he said with a grin.
