Chapter 303 Trouble at the Hot Spring
Not far away, Noreen watched the two of them acting so close, her chest aching so badly it felt hard to breathe. So it was true, she meant nothing to him at all. Then what had been the point of all these years of holding on? But after loving him for so many years, how am I supposed to let go?
Cameron strolled up to Travis with his hands in his pockets, wearing a cocky grin. “Well, well, Mr. Travis. Fate really does work in mysterious ways, doesn’t it? What’s the matter? Old friends meet again, and you’re not even going to say hello p>
Travis kept his head down, silent.
Lyla frowned and turned to the small crowd beside them. “Mr. Travis, what’s wrong with you p>
Travis was so terrified he couldn’t even form words. Who didn’t know who Sebastian was? His father had drilled it into him countless times, better to offend the King of Hell than to offend Sebastian.
And the rumors… that man was ruthless; when he took down an enemy, he left nothing behind. Travis might have been reckless, but he wasn’t stupid; he knew when the tide had turned against him.
“N–no, nothing,” he stammered. “Just joking around with the two ladies. Nothing, really p>
Lyla could tell Travis didn’t want to talk, but for some reason, she just didn’t want to make things easy for Lillian.
She tilted her head, feigning curiosity. “That bruise–who gave it to you p>
Travis darted a nervous glance at Lillian and blurted out, “I ran into something. My own fault p>
Right now, all he wanted was for this whole thing to blow over so he could get out of there as fast as possible.
But, of course, he had underestimated the stupidity of the people standing beside him.
One of the women supporting him immediately piped up, “Ran into something? Please. That woman hit you.” She even pointed straight at Lillian as she said it.
Travis wanted nothing more than to dive headfirst into the hot spring and drown himself right there. The saying was true — you can survive an enemy as sharp as a god, but you’re doomed with allies. If you keep this up, I’ll be dead and buried before the night is over.
“Oh? Ms. Harrington, no explanation?” Lyla said bluntly. “After all, Mr. Travis is an honored guest of the Soren family. What you did… it puts me in a difficult position p>

Lillian tilted her head slightly, as though mulling it over. “Hmm. I suppose an explanation is in order. What kind of explanation would you like, sir p>
Travis waved his hands frantically. “No, no need. Really, no need.” What explanation did he want? He just wanted to avoid being explained to death right there.
But his “ally,” apparently oblivious, snapped, “No need? Are you kidding me? He invited you to hang out, and you just up and hit him without a word. You didn’t even give him the time of day -and now you’re saying it’s fine p>
“Hang out?” The deep, magnetic timbre of a man’s voice cut through the tension, cold and sharp as his gaze landed on Travis, whose legs were already trembling.
The sound of that voice made Travis wish someone–anyone–would take pity on him and knock him unconscious.
Lillian leaned in, her tone playfully serious.
“Exactly. Mr. Mac and Ms. Noreen were over there putting on their own little drama—him as the overconfident suitor, her as the reluctant lady. And since Mr. Mac just had to drag me into it, I figured, why not? So I flipped the script and gave them the full ‘hero swoops in to save the damsel‘ moment. Pretty good, right p>
Her lively little explanation drew a rare, amused smile from Sebastian; the others, meanwhile, were left blinking in confusion.
Even Lyla hadn’t expected the girl to smooth things over so neatly with just a few words. If she pushed any further, she’d only look petty, so she smiled and said, “Ah, so that’s what happened. Well, as long as that’s cleared up p>
As for Travis, she knew exactly what kind of person he was–one of Kingston’s most notorious playboys, arrogant and reckless, with the Brooks family backing him up and indulging his every whim.
But now, it seemed, he wasn’t entirely hopeless; at least he knew when to bow his head.
