SORIN

I breathe in and out. The smell of fear radiates off of me, and I swear I could see the smoke in the air. It’s not even December yet. The gates open, and so does the collective outrage of everyone who hates me.
Which is, unfortunately… most of them.
The elders and a bunch of pack warriors are all huddled in a group as they enter the palace once again. A smirk forms on my face at the sight of the elders‘ jaws on the floor.
Yes fuckers, I was able to pull it off in five hours. No thanks to all of you.
I swallow the lump in my throat as my eyes try to find the neatest dressed person among the group of elders that comes in. My gaze lands on the guy at the center being entertained by a bunch of boomers from the conference who voted for him to not be permitted entry inside the Imperial Pack just hours ago.
Hypocrites, I tell you.
Alright, you’ve done this before. Just do what you usually do, Sorin.
I push my shoulder back and plaster the fakest smile this pack has ever seen as I make my way to the group of laughing men.
“Gentlemen!” I call and smile as I open my arms in welcome. I’m the host of today’s banquet. I have to do better. The man, who I would assume is Beta Cassian, turns to me. He’s gorgeous, that’s for sure. Blonde hair adorns his pale stature that seems to glow in the now night sky.
Eyes so blue I think you could drown in them, and that straight posture that tells you he takes no bullshit.
This man is a bombshell, that’s what he is.
Sucks for him though, my game is top–notch. “Oh, hi! And you must be…?” He starts off and my gaze lands on the geezers on his side. So much for escorting him; they really didn’t tell him who pushed for him to be permitted in, did they?
I smile before he could catch on. “I am Sorin. Host of this banquet, Beta Cassian p>
His eyes light up, and he takes a step forward towards me. I raise my chin in response. What the hell is he doin-
“I have never seen a lady as radiant as you, Lady Sorin.” His hand finds mine on my side as he pulls it to his lips and lands a kiss. My eyes widen, meeting his blue ones.
“I–uh… didn’t know you’re as poised as they say, Beta Cassian.” I force a smile and pull my hand off of his. He notices me flinching but doesn’t push as he takes a step back.
“I’m sorry, I must be tired from the journey from my pack,” he says and walks back to the elders, who are now taking turns glaring at me as if I cheated on the King and fucked the envoy in their face.

“Beta Cassian!” A voice interrupts us and I roll my eyes at the familiarity of it. What now? What does she want? I plaster a smile on my face as I turn to Camilla running towards us. There’s no Rosaline behind her. Strange. They’re always together.
“And this is? ” Beta Cassian turns to me with a confused yet a smiling face feigning politeness. “This is um-” Shit, I’m the host, I should know what to say.
“I am Luna Camilla.” She beams and I grind my teeth as the envoys turn to me. They’re confused, most likely that the host of this banquet is a different person than their Luna. And most likely annoyed, they’re served with another person.
Who, right now, is an Omega.
Cassian frowns as he points his finger in the air, visibly hesitant, “I thought she was p>
“She’s nothing but an Omega the King is playing with for now,” Luna Camilla smiles and links her arm with the envoy as they pass by me. “He would be bored with her soon enough.” She turns to me as I’m left standing there.
Stupid bitch.
Although she’s right. For now, without A;aric announcing anything about me, I am nothing but an Omega who’s been given a bit of privilege simply because the King favors me and the Goddess chose me to stay the night with him during the ritual.
Which apparently, is absolutely not special.
“Damn it.” I kick a stone from the pathway as Camilla, Cassian, and the rest of the elders disappear through the entrance.
I feel a gaze piercing through me. I lift my head to find a pair of crimson eyes from the master’s bedroom of the packhouse.
Alaric smirks and shrugs at me as he mouths, “You told me not to do anything.” I roll my eyes. He’s annoyingly right. It would have been solved in an instant had he interfered and told everyone, once more how much I mean to him.
Power would be in my hands almost instantly.
But no. We’re not doing that. I’m earning that crown and I’ll have to run over some bitch if I could.
I look up at him from the highest window. “Get the hell down and eat.” I mouth and the bastard blows me a kiss. Stupid ass.
I hide the smirk forming in my lips as I head inside. The sound of silver clattering and the voices from the dining hall already tells me Camilla must have already taken credit for my work.
“I’m visibly surprised you even let me into your territory. The Alpha of the White Wolves Pack have long been sending messages.” I hear Beta Cassian say. “Someone insisted on letting you in.” The elders all agreed

and I finally came into their line of sight.
I step in and lift my chin up at them all, “Me.” I mutter and everyone turns to me except for Camilla. She’s not at the table just yet.
The elders in particular don’t look very happy and I could taste the success on my lips upon their disappointment in trying to bring me down. Suck it up, assholes. You’re not taking credit for the work I’ve
done.
They are now all seated with only the head chair empty and the one right next to it. “You? They said you were an Omega who um p>

“The King favors, yes. I have been selected during the ritual.” I smile and walk to the chair beside the head one where the Alpha King sits and pull it out. The sound of scraping mixed with the silence of the elders are music to my ears. I look at Beta Cassian in those ocean eyes, “Fortunately, he also gave me enough authority to have a say in the court as.. p>
“-as the Goddess chose you to spend the night with him.” Camilla walks in with a bottle of champagne and pulls the chair off of my hand, “So Alaric must have been a bit too lenient on letting an Omega like you organize this event.” She smiles and sits down on it as I’m left to step back to the side together with the other Omegas.
Ugh, this is not how I intended this night to go. I’m supposed ot be earning the envoy’s trust.
“So she did organize this event? Thank you.” Beta Cassian turns to me and the envoys on the long table also nod in appreciation. Well this is a welcoming banquet for them after all. “I thought it was the Luna here who
“ ”
“Oh me? Of course not. The decor are too sloppy. Those flowers too. I mean-” She scoffs, turning to me, “Tulips? For a welcoming banquet?” I grit my teeth but force in a smile. Bitch.
Beta Cassian smiles as he puts his elbows onto the table and clasping his hands. “I think it’s beauti p>
“It’s ugly, I know.” a deep voice chuckles.
We all turn to him as the Omegas all bow down at every path he marches to. The air quickly shifts. This murderous aura that he emits, as if he’d just gone from killing someone is palpable. I wouldn’t be too shocked if he really did.
Everyone on the long table immediately stands up as well as Beta Cassian, bowing to the arrival of their King.
There goes the bastard. He finally decided to show up. He’s in a gorgeous button up that is not really doing its job. The first two buttons are opened, revealing that hard chest.
I lower my head together with the others, “Your Majest–ah!” A squeak leaves my lips when all of a sudden, I’m pulled by the waist and onto Alaric’s lap.
W–what is happening?
“I did tell her to change these flowers. Roses would have been more sophisticated, no?” He smirks towards everyone as he adjusts me on his lap. Everyone’s eyes are wide, seeing the King–known to be more beastly than anything, take a woman on his lap.

Fuck, I told him not to interfere tonight.

He turns to Camilla, “You did see us whispering so close to each other earlier, didn’t you?” He plaster the whitest smile ever. “That was when I told her. She’s quite stubborn, this one.” I could absolutely see the fumes smoking out of Camilla’s cars. She’s infuriated.
I swallow the smirk trying to come out of my lips. Okay, maybe him interfering isn’t so bad after all.
Beta Cassian, as the envoy, stands up from his seat. “Y–your Majesty.. I thank you for letting us in the Imperial Pack, we promise to p>
“I don’t know about me, but thank her.” He nods to me and my eyes widen at him. I lean close and pinch his side to which he only smirked at me for.
“What the hell are you trying to do?” I whisper. “Of course, thank you so much Miss Sorin.” His eyes bore into mine, those blue ones I’ve noticed first when they first came in.
“It was my pleasure.” I smile at him. I feel Alaric’s hold tighten and I turn to him with a frown of ‘What?‘ and he rolls his eyes.
“T–then let’s eat! You guys must have been parched on your journey. We have soup to serve.” Camilla interrupts. I turn to him with furrowed brows. How did she know soup will be served first?
She then turns to me, “I’m sure Sorin here made sure the food is just as exquisite, didn’t she?” I grit my teeth. What the hell is she trying to do?
I push myself off of Alaric. I’ll head off to the kitchen and see for myself what she’s up to. “Where are you going?” He whispers. I look him straight in the eyes. Those crimson gaze clinging to me as he tightens his hold onto my waist.
“I’ll be back.” I mutter seriously. He was about to say something else when I push off of him and walk over to the kitchen. Tully and Marg walk up to me with smiles on their faces. Well, Tully has a smile. Marg has a thank–fuck–it’s–done smile.
“Is everything good?” I ask, anxiety crawling up to me. I didn’t like the look on Camilla’s face. I just know she’s up to something. I walk to the bowls of soup lining up to be taken out. I inspect each one.
Tully speaks first as she walks behind me, “Yeah, we made sure every single one of them has food and no envoys are left out. We cooked just enough.” She chimes. I nod and take one bowl off the lines, putting it on a tray. This will be for Ala-
“Not that one, please.” I look up as another hand takes the bowl off of mine. It’s Rosaline. “This one is for the envoy.” She grins at me. “Why does it have to be that one?” I frown.
“I think it has something to do with the color of the bowls. I heard he likes blue ones.” She explains. What the
hell?
She pulls it off my hand and puts it on her own tray. I sigh and take another one. I’m getting way too paranoid.
I turn to Marg and Tully, “Send all the soups out now. Everyone’s hungry.” I order and walk out with my tray.

Rosaline puts down the first bowl in front of the envoy as I lay Alaric’s in front of him. My eyes never leave the bowl Rosaline served.
“You’re awfully looking at that bastard way too much” Alaric pulls my face onto him and the next thing I knew, he’s kissing the shit out of me in front of everyone. Freaking hell.
I close my eyes, about to fall for it. Shit, he’s doing it again, that annoying aura he emits that acts as some kind of pheromone. This man is a god.
“I-“I pull away, “I’ll stand in the corner, Your Majesty,” I smile and I see him clench his jaw, clearly annoyed at everyone being here. I wouldn’t be too shocked if he sends off everyone before they could even eat
Camilla slams down her napkin and pushes off of her chair, “Excuse me.” She smiles, clearly irritated. “Let’s cat!” Beta Cole breaks the tension and everyone begins to dig into their bowls as she leaves.
She walks over to the corner I’m standing in and I lift my chin up.
“Getting too comfortable, aren’t we?” She whispers. “Watch how your little ladder falls” she turns my head towards the envoy as he’s about to take a sip from his bowl.
“I’ll ruin everything for you, Omega.” She whispers.
Shit
I think it’s poisoned.
