Ezra looked really concerned about the messages that I got on the dark web and we had to figure out how I was meant to find out how we could trace the lineage on the first vampire. We didn’t even know who or what the first vampire was or if it was still around. Had the first vampire already been killed or not. There was only one thing I could think of. And I grabbed my phone and went to the other room.
“Hello.” Cory answered.
“Hey Cory, I need to see you tonight.” I said.
“Alright. What’s going on?” He asked.
“Well, these creatures that are attacking us. Attacking the human town. I just figured out that they’ve been after me since I was a baby. And I just found out that they are descendants from the very first vampire.” I said.
“What?” He asked, getting quiet.
“Yeah. You got any information on that?” I asked.
“No one messes with the first vampire.” He said.
“Is it still alive?” I asked.
“Can I come to that pack tonight?” He asked.
“Yeah. Please.” I said.
“Logan or the other pack members won’t mind?” He asked.
“I don’t really care. I’ll tell the patrols that you’re coming here. And if they don’t like it
then I don’t think they will say anything to me after they saw me kick their Alpha’s ass.” I said.
“What?” He asked, choking.
“He deserved it.” I said.
“I don’t doubt that. We’ll be there after sundown.” He said.
“Alright. I’ll talk to you then.” I said.
When I went back into the living room I sat on the floor with Ezra and I noticed that Paisley wasn’t anywhere around.
“Is she finally getting out on her own instead of watching the kids?” I asked.
“Yeah. I told her to go and have a little time to herself. She hasn’t had any time alone since we left our pack.” Ezra said.
“No. She’s been too busy help us.” I said.
“I told her to get some fresh air and hopefully go and meet some people.” He said.
“Good.” I said.
Savannah crawled over to me and started climbing all over me as I was layin
on the floor and I started lifting her
up and playing games with her while Aiden was just playing with his trucks and Ezra was watching us all with a
smile on his face.

“What are you smiling at?” I asked.
“I just want to remember today. What it’s like to be together like this. I have a feeling
that things are going to get really bad, really quickly.” He said.
“You don’t know that. Cory will be here after dark. I’m not sure who he’s bringing with him but I think he might have some information for us.” I said.
“Alright then. I really didn’t want to see that son of a bitch again.” Ezra said.
“I know. But you can’t deny that all they’ve ever done is try to help us.” I said.
“I know. But is that help going to stop this impending war?” He asked.
“I hope so. I guess we’ll find out.” I said.
I could tell that something else was on Ezra’s mind but I wasn’t sure what it was. I had a pretty good idea but I didn’t really want to poke the bear when it came to Logan. Ezra knows that he was my mate. But he also knows that I rejected him.
Ezra and I were second chance mates and we’ve made it work together. I don’t know why he would be nervous that I was in the same house as Logan. Especially after seeing what a dick Logan was being. There’s no way I would be interested in having anything to do with him or letting him have anything to do with Aiden.
It wasn’t too long after that when the Coroner finally arrived and Ezra dealt with that so I didn’t have to. And I kept the kids away from seeing anything that would upset them.
I was glad when all of that was dealt with and then an omega went in and cleaned that bedroom completely from top to bottom and I stayed with my kids the whole time playing. Trying to keep my mind off of my mother. I guess it wasn’t something that I was ready to deal with. And the guilt that I hadn’t been here for the last five years. No matter how much she told me she was glad that I wasn’t here.
She knew that I had to get away from Logan. And I was still unsure why he had moved her into the packhouse. If I had to guess, it would have been some sort of ploy to get me to come back. Cause he claimed that he always knew that I wasn’t dead. But even that wasn’t enough.
Mom had her secret phone and we kept in touch. Plus the spy that we had in the pack was always being helpful with whatever information we needed about Logan. It was everything we needed to make sure that Logan wasn’t mistreating her. And that’s all I needed to know.
But she looked forward to the secret phone calls that I would give her. And the way she lit up when she met her grandkids, that was all I needed to see from her. And she gave her life protecting those kids. That is something that I would never forget.
After dinner that night we bathed the kids and got them ready for bed and I grabbed a book and I started reading to both of them while Ezra was giving Savannah a bottle and when they were finally asleep Ezra put Savannah in her portable cot and we left the room with the baby monitor.
Paisley had just gotten back to the house and we were really surprised that she was gone for so long. She had a really strange look on her face when she got back to the house but she wouldn’t talk about it. She just went upstairs to get ready for bed.
Ezra and I both thought that it was weird, but she’d talk about it when she was ready.
After that we both grabbed a beer out of the fridge and we sat on the back patio furniture and waited for Cory to arrive.

I had already alerted the patrols that they were coming and they were here to see
me so they weren’t allowed to stop them from coming.
We weren’t sitting outside for very long when we started seeing the dark figures appear from the tree line, walking towards the house.
I could make out Cory, Sergio and Bonnie.
“Why the fuck did she have to come with them?” Ezra asked.
“I don’t know. Probably some sort of liaison or something. Because she’s a wolf.” I
said.
“Maybe.” He said. And we stood up and waited for them to reach us before we all went back inside to talk more privately.
